When we went it was completely fogged in and raining. So we went for a hike in Waimea Canyon (2hrs) where it was sunny. Stopped at the museum and ate our lunch, then headed back to the lookout and it was still fogged in. Timing is everything with these lookouts so be sure to keep an eye on the weather... More

We were tired and weary by the time we were almost finished with all the outlooks. Boy was this last one at the very end of the trail a real treat. Breathtaking. A little windy so maybe bring a sweatshirt if you are the cold type. Picture heaven for the shutter bugs

No matter where you are staying on the island, a drive to Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Park is worthy of being part of your itinerary (be sure to grab some free coffee at Kauai Coffee in Kalaheo on the drive along the way!). If you have a convertible or jeep, beware that you will probably encounter sporadic rain in... More

Unfortunately for us after traveling through Waimea Canyon State Park with perfect weather the weather started to change once we reached Koke'e State Park so much so that when we reached the Kalalau Lookout it had completely clouded over with a solid wall of grey-white cloud. Therefore we almost did not drive the remaining mile to this lookout, but we... More

Make sure you drive to the very end of the road. On our first visit to Waimea Canyon we stopped off at all the official lookouts and unofficial pullovers on the way up and we ran out of daylight by the time we got to Koke'e State Park turning around at Koke'e Museum, which was closed. But we returned another... More

This is a magnificent lookout, assuming you get a parking spot. We waited between 5 and 10 minutes -- which is certainly worth it -- for a parking space. The lookout platform itself is decent, but there are better views to be had if you're willing to venture down the Pihea Trail a bit. If you do that, be mindful... More

The first half mile is quite easy. Be careful, could be slippery but with a good pair of walking shoes it's ok. Second half mile, prepare yourself. Forget about white running shoes, nice outfit and being not in too good shape. You'll have to hang on to tree branches, step into mud, and be very careful about your grip. It... More

Puuo Kila is on the back rim of Kalalau valley and offers a great panoramic view of the valley and Kauai's northwestern coastline some four thousand feet below. Puuo Kila is at the very end of the Waimea Canyon Drive (Highway 550). It is about a mile after the Kalalau Lookout. Puuo Kila is at the end of the road... More
