Description: Princeville Botanical Gardens is a family owned and operated garden...
Princeville Botanical Gardens is a family owned and operated garden paradise located in the Princeville area on the magnificent north shore of Kauai. The Robertson Family, with the help of their close gardening friend, Michael, have transformed their 8-acre retirement home into a breathtaking garden with dramatic landscaping in two steep valleys. The Robertsons grow a small cacao (chocolate) grove and process their own gourmet homemade dark chocolate. Part of every tour is a chocolate tasting and lesson on how the family makes their chocolate. Longer tours include samples of delicious tropical fruits. The fun, educational tours of the garden include ethnobotanical and medicinal uses of plants, stories and information about native Hawaiian and "canoe" plants, and much more about a diverse collection of species from around the world. Visits to our garden are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. We host walking tours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Tours are not recommended for children under 6 years. We strongly recommend good walking shoes. Please be sure to call us before visiting. Thank you!

My wife and I took this excellent tour on Thurs., 15 Jan 2015. I phoned the listed number early the week that we were in Princeville and was so impressed by the warm welcome and helpful details provided by the host. We were among about 20 others on our tour. Our guide was outstanding. We learned about numerous plants and... More

My mom and I did this tour and really enjoyed it! Beautiful grounds and very knowledgeable and personable guides. I learned a lot about the native and non-native vegetation of Hawaii. Do wear bug spray (the mosquitoes will get you before you know it) and wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Highly recommend!

This pleasant stroll through the privately owned gardens combines historical information about the botanicals of the area (both indigenous and imported) as well as an overview of the chocolate making process. The tour includes a sampling of fresh fruits and chocolates. Tip: wear closed toed shoes that can get muddy.

this is the one! I liked this one better than Allerton, honestly, but they are very different. The gardens are rather formal (new gardens being developed currently) and are more knowledge-based than Allerton (which is "look how pretty"-based). Our guide was very nice, energetic, knowledgeable. The tour was small and intimate. We learned a lot about various plants and uses,... More

This is the 2nd garden of 3 we have been to in hawaii. We enjoyed this tour. Amazing flowers, great grounds and tasting food all the way. We had so many fruits right off the tree. We had so much chocolate and the best was made by Mrs Robinson!!! I wish she sold it as we would of bought quite... More

We went here and to Limahuli Gardens and loved them both. Neither of us are garden people but we loved both gardens. We had a tour of this garden and our guide was very knowledgeable and fun. It is hilly and our guide had a cart ready for us to drive us up from the last steep climb. It was... More

It's a really awesome place because they have this amazing chocolate tour and the tour guides are really awesome and nice. Me and my mum had a really good time there. If you don't know what to do then go here or if you are a chocolate making person go here.

The tour of the Princeville Botanical Gardens far exceeded my expectations. The seven distinct areas each offer a comprehensive view into a world of vegetation we seldom have an opportunity to experience in our travels. The meticulously designed and landscaped gardens amid a world of naturally occurring indigenous and native plants, trees and flowers viewed along a navigable path was... More

This was a really interesting tour. It's a 3 hour guided tour on private property and only available on certain days of the week but if you are interested in native (and non native) flora it's definitely worthwhile. The guides are very knowledgeable and you get to taste different fruits that are grown on the property as you take the... More
