The Robertson Family, with the help of their close gardening friend, have transformed their 8 acre retirement home into a breathtaking garden with dramatic landscaping in two steep valleys. The Robertsons grow a small cacao (chocolate) grove and process their own homemade dark chocolate. Part of every tour is a short chocolate tasting and lesson on how the family makes their chocolate. The fun, educational tours of the garden include ethnobotanical and medicinal uses of plants, stories and information about native Hawaiian and "canoe" plants, and much more about a diverse collection of species from around the world.Visits to our garden are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. "Drop-ins" will be turned away and asked to book a reservation on one of our guided tours. Please call us before visiting. « less

I have visited all 5 botanical gardens on Kauai and none have disappointed. This is the newest and it's highlight is a chocolate tasting at the end of the tour. We tried 7 varieties of high quality chocolate including one produced on site from their cacao trees. The tour and chocolate tasting/presentation lasted 3 hours and cost $40/person. The tour... More

Jason, the guide, was really versed in the flora without being stuffy or a "know it all." He was sensitive to the people on the tour allowing us to ask all sorts of questions. The tour provides opportunities to pause for a breather, to take pictures, and even sample fruits of the garden ending with a cacao/dark chocolate sampling session.... More

We took the delightful tour lead by Jason, the son of the garden owners. He was entertaining, approachable and knowledgable about the gardens. Following a walk through the garden where Jason discussed his experiments growing cacao beans, we gathered for a chocolate tasting. Much like a wine tasting, Jason educated us on what to look for and gave time to... More

This was a very pleasant surprise when this attraction opened in the Princeville area. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, the entire staff friendly and the small group tour was most enjoyable. They accommodated my wife who had some mobility issues at the time by allowing her to follow along in a golf cart. The walkway and trails can be... More

It was raining the Saturday that we toured the gardens. Didn't know how I would enjoy walking in the rain. The grounds and walkways are nicely laid out and they provide umbrellas and walking sticks. There is a fresh water stream that runs through the garden; but there is a steep climb up the hillside near by. Be sure to... More

We took the morning tour of this garden and had a great time learning about the plants and trees that this family has planted over the last few years. They spent a lot of time and money to clear the land and terrace the property and had expert help from a professional landscaper who encourged them to open it to... More

Chocolate testing was the best part. The gardens are laid out very nicely, we enjoyed all flowers and various trees, lots of them from India like mango trees, Kesudo (African tulip) , Champo, various Orchids, must visit. More

My husband and I visited the Ahounui Botanical Gardens in Princeville today. This was truly one of the most amazing days I think I've ever had in all of my travels around the world. The garden is situated on an 8 acre site that was reclaimed from the jungle over the last 10 years by the owner Bill Robertson and... More
