Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this outstanding garden, known for its diverse collection of tropical plants. I'm not going to say this is a must, but I will say I absolutely loved their gift shop. The lady behind the counter was truly friendly and extremely knowledgable. We walked around and enjoyed the free part, its about a 3 hour tour, time we didn't want to spend in a garden.

The McBryde Garden is one of three National Tropical Botanical Gardens on Kauai. The other one in Poipu is the Allerton Garden. I did not research McBryde carefully enough before we went--it is definitely not good for people with physical limitations (they are working on making it accessible). The ride to the garden is breathtaking (you get the same ride... More

In the 70's I used to sneak in and run around. Now you can take a tram. If your in to self guided walks you an stay as long as you want, take lots of pics. we didn't go back with our original group. started following a Hawaiian Heron down river, sat by the little waterfall to cool off. But... More

The best part was the shuttle ride from the visitor's center; beautiful scenery. I understand that this is a research/conservation garden with important historical plants. Not a lush floral garden, which I, personally, prefer. Map provided, but better markers all around would have been helpful. A restroom was available at the high point of the garden, near shuttle drop off;... More

We went on the guided tour of McBryde Gardens which is part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden encompassing nearly 2,000 acres of gardens and preserves in Hawai'i and Florida. It was a 3.5 hr tour. We drove through the beautiful gardens, feeling like you were in the 'real' Hawaii. then there was a leisurely 1 mile hike which takes... More

Decided to do the self directed walking tour since we had missed the guided tour. It was okay and you could take as much time as you wanted however we would like to take an escorted tour the next time we come back. Just our preference. Lots of different trees and plants to view. Well organized and kept.

You have a map but none of the paths are marked. I got onto an unintended trail - found myself back where I had started. Construction is underway for a cafe and restrooms in a central spot. Maybe then they'll add signs.

I spent an hour touring the garden... it was nice, but not spectacular. Apparently Allerton Gardens have more to offer. The bus ride to the garden (from the ticket booth) was the nicest part. I found that most of the plants and flowers at McBryde Garden could be seen anywhere on the island in a more natural environment. If you... More

A beautiful garden and a pleasant walk. Wished we would have stayed longer at the garden but had to leave early for another stop. The walk through the area did not take as long as it appeared on the map. The last garden with spices and plants was the most interesting to us.

Bring a hat, Be prepared for a mile walk. One of the highlights of our trip. Once an estate, now part of the Pacific Botanical Gardens.
