Very nice gardens to roam around in for at least 2-3 hours. Pricey but the Allerton was twice as high and for what? I'd take McBryde any day...

We went to the botanical gardens to spend a couple hours walking among native plants and would have stayed much longer if we could have. We viewed the McBryde Gardens. You pay and a bus driver/guide drives you to a drop off/pick up spot. He was very good explaining things as we passed and had been a child growing up... More

A little pricey at $20 a head for a self guided walk but it was very pleasant and informative. Fortunately a little overcast otherwise it could get pretty hot. Lots of mosquitos around but the bug spray worked fine. A worthy stop if this interests you.

An amazing place. Very beautiful with well marked instructional signage. Find another day to also go to the Allerton Gardens there. Visiting here was my favorite thing to do in Kauai

This NPO is doing such an important job in preserving Hawaii's native plants and giving the general public an opportunity to learn about them. If you are in Kauai, please make sure you call and make a reservation for either a guided or self-guided tour. Our family elected the self-guided tour and spent a very lovely afternoon at the garden... More

World Class! Gorgeous! Breath taking! We took the 2.5 hour (or so) guided tour of the Allerton Garden today. I took so many pictures! Everywhere you look, it's simply beautiful! I HIGHLY recommend the guided tour, rather than doing the walking tour. The guided tour is so informative! Our guide, Sam, was so knowledgeable, funny, and just a great guy!... More

We truly enjoyed our self-guided visit to this National Tropical Botanical Garden, and we know we will enjoy our next visit even more! The garden layout is beautiful, and the narrative provided by our bus driver on the way in and out of the garden was informative and entertaining. From the construction projects we observed during our visit, it is... More

For the $20 entrance fee, the McBryde is a bit overpriced compared to other Botanical gardens, although the fees support a good research & preservation cause. (Discount ads offer a 15% discount.) It has a wide variety of tropical vegetation, ranging from native, to species brought by the first Polynesian settlers, as well as non-Hawaian plants. It has a good... More
