My husband went in to buy all the tickets. The woman was very rude and asked him where was the rest of his party. He said waiting outside and then she frowned at him. The driver and his company were extremely nice and knowledgeable. It was a self-guided tour and it was okay, not a lot of plants and a... More

This is definitely not a manicured botanical garden with water displays and butterfly houses. This is a natural space where tropical plants are preserved, protected, and studied. There is significant science and research happening here. The tour starts on a bus, and the guides were enthusiastic about the gardens and the work there. Sterling and Star were the guides, and... This was a highlight of 10 days on-island. I have mobility challenges and use a cane most of the time. I purchased trekking poles (practicing prior to trip) and they really made the difference; that and a good pair of shoes. It should be noted that the National Tropical Botanical Gardens is a not-for-profit run organization and NOT part of... More

A lovely garden to walk around with a wonderfully entertaining shuttle driver. They are building a cafe in the gardens which will be lovely.

They are undergoing construction and many of the trails are poorly marked and constructed. If you miss the hourly return bus you can be sitting around looking at the construction for an hour. Once they have finished what they started it will be great

These gardens are a wonderful excursion and change of pace from the beach. Be sure to put insect repellant on, you can experience some mosquito bites. The tour is wonderful. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Take your water with you and be sure to bring the plastic bottle out with you.

Arrived at 1:20 for the 1:30 waited 5 minutes to get directions to the kiosk and when we got there the lady said "The bus has to leave on schedule" which was strange because the bus was right in front of us and the people in line in front of us just got on it. Then it just left. The... More

We enjoyed this tour, but I would have enjoyed it more to see tropical flowers. The different plants, palms, etc, were neat to see, and the area is beautiful. Just make sure you realize what you're getting into.

We were interested in learning more about the plants of Hawaii and so took the time to visit McBryde. The ride to the gardens was beautiful and the driver was both interesting and entertaining. The self-guided tour map could use more information and the gardens could use better signage. I wish there had been more information about the birds, too.... More

Had really wanted to do this as well as Allerton Gardens but thought we would be pushing it with the guys :) Getting off the bus at the "top" of the gardens it was a bit underwhelming but as we worked our way down we were really fascinated with the very interesting trees and the flowers. Turned out to be... More
