There's a sheltered area for the kids. Right next to is a rocky spot, shallow, filled with colourful fish. Just a short walk away is the land spit where the seals go to rest (unfortunately not the day that I was there). And just beyond that is a popular surfing spot. There's a kids playground, a washroom, change area, and... more

This is a very nice beach and had good facilities nearby, and it's a pretty drive to get there through the tree tunnel and such, but after everyone raved about this beach we didn't find it to be as amazing as folks said. Of course it's awesome compared to beaches elsewhere in the U.S. but compared to other Kauai beaches,... more

Stop here last month for a few hours - This is the perfect beach for a day of fun. There were 2 monk seals sleeping on the beach, so cute. The water was perfect for tanning, swiming, snorkeling and boogie boarding. We also saw a few sea turtles swim right by us - truly a sight to see. Wish I... more

This turned out to be our favorite beach on south shore Kauai. The snorkeling was fantastic both days we went. One day was calmer water than the other but both were teeming with fish in the rocks and reef sections. Even saw a brown spotted puffer and yellow trumpet fish. When sea turtles visit everyone has to give them leeway,... more

This is one of the nicest beaches on Kauai. It just has so many surprises. Nice sand, half way decent snorkeling, restrooms, shower, and nice sand. Chickens are abound on this island, so don't mind one joining you on the towel. The fun surprise is the visits of the monk seals and the sea turtles. This last time, a seal... more

We spent our first Kauaii vacation day visiting Poipu Beach on the south shore. First, we checked the surf forcast at www.kauaiexplorer.com/ocean_report/ The beach is easy to find, and parking was no problem. A monk seal was resting on the beach for the full 4 hours we were there. It is easy to find these monk seals because they cordon... more

Poipu Beach Park is a great place to take the family for a day. We tried several other beaches on the south shore of Kauai but always came back to this one. The snorkeling is great, especially on the Poipu side. The shallow sandy pool on the Brenickes side is great for small children. On our last day there a... more

It's best to go early in the morning to snorkel at this beach. I tried it in the afternoon and the water was stirred up. But, all you need to do is put your snorkel gear on, step into the water and starting snorkeling. It's somewhat protected so you don't get a lot of very strong waves and there are... more

This is calm relaxing beach were you can go snorkeling, or just wade in the water. Snorkeling is great here. There are many different types of fish in the waters. Also if you are lucky, you will a Monk Seal. Monk Seals use the south part of the island to rest after a night of feeding. There is also a... more

Man, Poipu beach is a great beach. This is our 4th year here, we are staying at nearby condos, and hit the beach almost every morning. It is not a big beach, but it is lovely and it has everything. First, the water is great—waves are muted by the offshore breakwater—warm and somewhat clear. The beach is good for sunning,... more
