NTBG’s Allerton Garden Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

I thoroughly enjoyed the sunset tour. There were three couples which made the tour feel personalized. The tour went to areas that are closed to the public. The plants were lush and plentiful. Our tour guide, Hal, was a very informative.

a house of outdoor gardens that has been there for decades....this was the most unique thing i saw in hawaii. it was great, and our tour guide, who was not a native, but someone who loves his job, made it even better. I would recommend this to any visitor to the island, and to any native that has not yet... More

Being from the Northeast, we find the flora in Hawaii astounding. Our tour guide "Kevin" was great. Not only did he know the plants at Allerton, he could relate them to your own knowledge base. May was a good time to visit. Many of the plants were it the beginning of their flowering stage, so we got to see some... More

Thank you Dave. We lucked out having the most senior tour guide show us all that he could in just under three hours. I was exhausted, but I can only imagine if we had Dave for a week to show us all there is to know about the Gardens and that would most likely be still not everything. This was... More

This is not one of our usual activities to do on vacation. We were surprised at how interesting and informative the guided hike was and how entertaining our guide Juan made the day while educating us on the plant life and history of Hawaii. The flowers and architecture of the garden were amazing. Well worth the $40.00 admission fee. Bring... More

The allerton garden tour was much better than expected. The views were awesome and the tour guide really knew the plants. Tour was 2.5 hours and was one of the better tours we took on this vacation.

A holy way to spend a Sunday morning. Others can be eloquent; I'll just say it was stunning and beautiful.

We enjoyed our guided tour immensely. We had a fantastic guide named Kevin that was not only knowledgeable but laid back and fun! It was very interesting to hear the story of the gardens and how they work to preserve native Hawaiian plants. This is a formal garden and was nicely decorated. One feature we enjoyed was the Mermaid fountain... More
