NTBG’s Allerton Garden Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

Even before you get to the"tour", while still on the bus-you will get to see unbelievable sights. My favorite was the secluded beach with a whale breaching in the distance and spinner dolphins jumping more near. This looks like a movie set--because it was. Multiple movies have been filmed on the estate This was a grade A Tour all the... More

How can you visit the Garden Island and not visit a botanical garden? We really enjoyed this tour through the Allerton Garden. Our guide, Martin, was full of fascinating information about literally EVERY plant we encountered. We visited places where the movie Jurassic Park was filmed, saw gorgeous fountains and peaceful groves, lush flowers, and even got to try some... More

This is a magnificent experience in outdoor beauty. Don't miss it if you're on Kauai. It's a combination of bus ride and walking but the walking is easy and necessary to understand the feel of the place. Guides are excellent!

Wonderful garden, but a little disappointed from our tour 10 years ago. The price has gone up and the tour has been shorten. They no longer include the house on the tour, still a beautiful place to visit.

The guided tour cost $45 per person but is the only way you can see these gardens. They focus is on native Hawaiian plants. There are many wonderful pools and statues throughout the gardens. The guide is quite knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the gardens. The tour takes two and one half hours, and does involve walking through the gardens.... More

My husband and I decided to try something new while in Kauai. We visited the Allerton and McBryde gardens. Before buying our tickets we ran into Dennis. He was so enthusiastic about the gardens. He explained the sunset dinner tour held on the grounds and suggested purchasing the tickets on line for a savings. We decided to return for dinner.... More

We took the walking guided tour and we were very glad we did. Our tour guide went into great and very interesting detail in his presentation. Nicely paced walk allowed us to see a bunch without being hurried. The gardens are beautiful and well worth the money.

Had a great walk through of the garden, a very nice dinner in an idyllic spot on the lanai of the Allerton house listening to the waves break on the beach. Kevin (tour leader) and Loryn (we had met earlier in the week) were very knowledgeable and great hosts.

Went here for a special dinner related to a convention. Got a mini tour en route from mansion to dinner site. Have been here before and was suitably impressed again. Various "rooms" created by foliage and containing some sort of water feature. Giant trees look pre-historic. So it's pretty obvious why Jurassic Park was filmed here. Overall, a fascinating place...
