NTBG’s Allerton Garden Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

Our tour guide (Juan) was very knowledgeable about the origins of the beautiful plants and sculptures that can be found in this garden. We enjoyed the mermaid fountains and Jurassic Park trees the best. Great way to spend two hours.

After a few times in Kauai, this was the first year we went to the Allerton Gardens and it was a happy surprise. The Guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate. The views were amazing and we learned so much for an Island we have loved for years. Bring organic bug spray and water. It's a lovely outing!

If you have limited time and can visit only one garden, this is it. The guided tours are well orchestrated. The guides are very knowledgeable, open to questions and point out the most interesting sites. It is a spectacular work of art using trees, bushes, flowers and statues. Plus the tree where the Raptor eggs were located in Jurassic Park... More

We read that this garden was rated #1 by National Geographic and certainly warrants this rating. What is unique about this tour of the gardens is the story of WHO made the gardens what they are today, WHAT they are doing to keep the gardens as they first were planted, and HOW they envision feeding the world by sending breadfruit... Took the sunset tour with dinner on the lanai and cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed it. Sterling, our guide, kept us thoroughly entertained and provided a lot of excellent information. Thank you Sterling. We plan on returning again to see more the next time we come to Kauai.

Our tour guide was great fun and very informed. We walked through the amazing gardens past spectacular water features and garden "rooms.” It was wonderful to hear the history of the gardens and to have dinner on the patio of the home by the beach. The home is very plain and they are seeking funding to bring it back to... More

A beautiful and interesting way to learn about the history of Hawaii. Our guide, Robert, had so much wonderful information about the history of the gardens, the plants, the movies and shows that had been filmed there. It was a wonderful experience that all of our family enjoyed.

My 89-year old Dad and 18-year old daughter and I enjoyed a very interesting guide through these beautiful gardens. It was a slow, leisurely walk, about an hour and a half, through amazing lush gardens, beautifully explained by our guide who was extremely knowledgeable about everything we saw. A nice, quiet place just to walk through and take lovely photos.

I am so glad I took this wondergul tour. Led by expert guides, Sam and Sterling, you are transported to the elaborate and perfectly maintained Allerton Gardens. I loved hearing about the history of the gardens, Hawaiian culture, the plants, medicinal values, and the entire tour itself. I love plants, horticulture, and gardens. If you do too, this is a... We took the Allerton Garden Tour. You need to make a reservation a month in advance. Had Kevin as our tour guide on this 2 hour walking tour. Wonderful to see what this family created and preserved. I highly recommend .
