This is an awesome beach located near Lihue and Kapa'a (south side) What makes it so great is the fact that the beach has been sectioned off from the rough ocean waves by creating a boulder wall. This created 2 lagoons, one for the kids and another large section for adults. They back filled the lagoon with fine sand so... More

protected beach, but new rock barriers do not allow for as easy a flow of fish and water into the protected pools as before

This beach has a highly protected rock wall to stop all incoming waves. The snorkeling is okay near those rocks. They also have super clean bathrooms and a nice sand and grass area to hang out all day. It also has a fair amount of trees to get shade.

We have snorkeled many places over the world, but spent a fun hour at the park early in the morning before turning in our rented snorkel gear. The water was warm, shallow and clear and we saw a remarkable amount of fish. Of course, this is not like snorkeling at Tunnels Beach, but it is a great place to "get... More

Everytime we go to Kauai we come to Lydgate park and allow the kids to wade in the cove and snorkel. We saw some amazing fish when we were there August 8-19 - very big beautiful blue fish and my kids loved it!! The water in the cove is shallow and calm like a swimming pool. Its really a perfect... Excellent beach with many amenities. Kids pool, really great playground, enclosed larger pool with many fish (like swimming in an aquarium). You can often find people parasailing on the beach.

The Kamalani wooden adventure playground at Lydgate Park is simply wonderful for children - it has plenty of shade too and a large grassy area to have a picnic, the whole park is nice and the keiki rock pools protected from the surf are lovely. Great place with lots of shade and benches and we spent a lot longer than... More

What a great little public beach. There are times that you just want to be able to go in to the water without the waves knocking you down. This is the beach to go to. Great for little kids, snorkeling around, while still enjoying the sights and sounds of crashing waves.
