Doug and Sandy have been giving authentic Hawaiian slack key guitar and ukelele concerts twice a week at Hanalei Community Center since 1999. They're a standard attraction and an excellent way for visitors to learn about the history of Hawaii's slack key music as well as old stories that inspired the music - Sandy also relates some of the cultural connections of the survival of this native Hawaiian music. Their primary purpose is to make people aware of the history and cultural importance of this type of music. Concerts are one of the most affordable things to do on Kauai and appeal to both the individual visitor as well as to groups or families.

It’s not just an amazing concert but also once in a lifetime therapy experience. The heartfelt music of Doug and Sandy healed from my past regrets. I also recommend to walk behind the building after the concert, the unbelievably stunning panoramic Hawaiian nature landscape will take your breath away.

A piece of heaven -- We enjoyed the music of Doug and Sandy and the peaceful, soothing sounds they create. Also wonderful: the gentle humor and banter they share! Go hear them in person -- you'll also want to take home some of their music to put you back in that sacred, peaceful state. Be prepared to leave your cares... More

We love listening to the slack key music in this beautiful setting in Hanalei. Doug is truly an artist with this lovely soothing music. The very best. We consider the times we have gone as a "life experience" for us. The audience is spellbound and so are we.

Superb concert. Experience traditional Hawaiian guitar music with just the right amount of history to more fully appreciate this fine music. Sandy and Doug McMaster create a setting where you feel you are among friends. We liked it so much we went to two concerts. Be sure to include this in your plans while on Kauai.

Don't miss it if you love Hawaiian Music. It is the best of all you could ask for when learning about the history and the music and the people who have made it possible to hear it today. From the welcome to the discussion to the music and the stories behind the music we were relaxed and enthralled by the program. The music touches you, but the stories tell you why. Here's hoping you have mny, mqny more years to do more shows for more people.

We heard about this concert from friends. So glad we went! Doug and Sandy take you on a moving journey. When you go, expect to RELAX. Nothing is rushed, so just sit back and let the music speak to you. We did, and it was an emotional journey that touched our hearts. The music is traditional Hawaiian. When you hear... More
