spent 5 or 6 days on this beach last week with my wife & another couple, had a great time swimming, boogie boarding & surfing. sandy bottom, for the most part, makes this 2 mile wide beach a special place. we stayed between the Hanalei Pier & the lifeguard station, looking for 3'-5' waves. the views are not bad either.... Well, it IS is Hawaii, after all. While all beaches here are well appointed (lifeguards, bathrooms), what makes this beach stand-out is that within walking distance is the lovely little village of Hanalei. Shopping, dining, groceries et. al. Lots of free parking. Great surfing.

It was a rainy day when we decided to drive up the coast. As we passed through Hanalei, I spotted a Pho truck (there are nmany food truck on the island). My wife loves Pho so we stopped in. There was another food truck next to it, so I opted for a grilled chicken sandwiche. Both dishes were very good.... More

I would call this one of my favorite places on the Island, with high surf just about every beach on the island we found this perfect spot, surf stayed manageable for some great bodysurfing withou getting killed. As you sit on the beach you look to the north and there are 3 perfect waterfalls in the distanance.

Something for everybody here. Nice Pier you can jump off of - mellow water to swim back to shore in. No real waves at the beach, so kids can really play and swim. Surfing and SUP off in the distance near the mouth of the bay. Bathrooms and parking no problem. The town is right there so you have easy... More

We spent a few days on this beach while my 11 and 13 year olds learned to surf. It gets quite busy but the beach is huge so there was always room. We stayed until sunset one night and got some beautiful pictures as the beach is so scenic. It is also nice the beach is right near/in Hanalei so... More

This was one of the most scenic beaches we enjoyed while on Kauai. Long strip of beautiful sand and tons of large waves breaking as you walk or lay on this beach. Don't miss this spot. And if it's raining, wait 10 minutes. The north shore of Kauai is wet but the weather improves as the day goes by.
