Hit A-bay Beach before all the tourons from the adjacent mega-Marriott get there or wait til after they leave. A beautiful spot when there are no crowds.

Close parking, tall palm trees for shade, chair available. Snack bar , rest rooms and beach toy rentals. A great place to sit and watch the sunset.

This was our favorite beach while visiting Hawaii. It was very close to our condo in Waikaloa and offered easy snorkling for our first time. The water is not crystal clear, but you are still able to see a lot of sea urchins and we even found a sea turtle while snorkling as well. There are places close by to... More

A very sheltered beach, with gentle wave action. And the water is very warm. Be respectful - there is a sacred King's pool there that you won't be allowed to swim in. Lots and lots of feral kitties that an association takes care of. Feeding time for the kitties seems to be around 5 PM.

This bay gets a lot of hype. It was nice, but not the nicest beach by any stretch. Of course, I am sure it depends on any given day. I think the overall PR comes from the fact that there is the potential to do a little bit of everything here. Paddle-boarding, snorkeling, swimming, "OK" for small kids, easy access.... More

Palm trees, food, drink, chair rentals and calm beautiful water. What more could you ask for? Usually was crowded so if you want a chair or shade get there early. Protected area and closes at 8pm sharp even if your vehicle is in the lot. Absoulutely worth an afternoon. Take a picnic if beach food isn't your favorite.

Free parking and easy access. Very calm bay with some shower and restroom facilities. There is an ocean sports rental facility as well. I like it best at sunrise for a swim/run/swim combo. Some shade and free lounge chairs as well. Very good for families.

Go to the section of beach by the Lava Lava Beach Club (not really a club just a restaurant) We had a 9 and 11 year old out there snorkeling and they did just fine. Some areas are rocky and shallow coral. But it was nice....I would recommend going farther out it seemed to stir up less and the visibility... More

by far not the cleanest waters on the Kohala Coast--Go north or south from here and you will be rewarded.

Nice and easy water for snorkeling. Water was clear but not crystal. Saw some great fish, there was an under water cave near the coral. Plenty of beach chairs, sun or shade which ever you prefer! No jelly fish in May. Very nice sandy beach.
