If you are in search of the perfect sunset spot on the Big Island, this ranks up there pretty high. Take a walk and sit behind the fish pond facing the ocean. You will have the palm trees blowing in the wind and the sun reflects in the fish pond as it is going down. A lovely spot to take... More

This coast has some excellent beaches and during our month-long stay we found we went to different ones for various reasons. This is known as A Beach and is a fine alternative to Hapuna (often very crowded) or the public access beaches near the hotels. We never felt it was very crowded. Not a beach for body surfing, but great... More

This beach was nowhere near as nice as Hapuna Beach which is less than a ten minute drive from the Waikoloa Resort area. The sand is comparable to California beach sand, its not the beautiful white sand you expect to see. We went during the evening to watch the sun set and it was worth it. The location is perfect... Great for water sports: kayaks, paddle boards, glass bottom boats, long boats. Very little shade but public chaise lounges and a nice obstacle course to walk.

Fabulous beach with usually lots of turtles to see although we didn't see as many this trip as other years. It was much more crowded this year as well but still a fantastic beach. No high surf so lovely for children.

This is probably not the beach for you if you're looking for big waves, terrific snorkeling and yes be careful as the rocks offshore have some sharp edges. That said, if you're staying in Waikoloa this is a perfect little beach that is close by. You can drive or walk if you choose. Nice sandy beach and the water usually... More

Great location and lots to do on the beach. Snorkeling was marginal due to weather and by all means, wear some sort of beach/water shoes. The rocks are sharp and very unforgiving to tourists who are not familiar with beach.

This is one of the most photographed beaches in the world and if you're there at sunset, you know why. It was actually devastated by the tsunami (middle of the beach was washed out, including it's famous palm trees) and it was under repair the last time I was there. Even then, still one of the most beautiful places you... More

I too am confused by some of the reviews. The beach has rocks and poor visibility so given the other options in the area it is not the best for swimming or snorkelling. It is an interesting beach to walk along. It may also be good for things like kayaking. It is also where some tour boats come to shore,... More

In "The Big Island Best Guidebook" this is rated as the number one beach and I can certainly see why. This beach is also know by many as Waikoloa and it has lots of free parking and great lounge chairs for those who arrive early enough. There is lots of shade and wonderful walks that you can do. There are... More
