There are so many to look at. We take photos every time we are there. This time I had a couple shipped to the mainland. It was not difficult to do. The staff was very helpful and left very little to chance. The orchids beat us home with no issues in the shipping. Instructions came with each orchid and in... More

We stopped in to see the Orchids - very nice. Consider this place for looking around. We had difficulty in getting someone to answer questions about shipping to various places even though there were several sales help. Their answers did not help us and made us feel unwelcome. If you like their flowers, it is best to go home and... More

Absolutely beautiful selection and displays.I had no idea that there were so many varieties and colors. When you first walk in you are immediately greeted with wonderful smells and scents. Bring your camera and all the questions you have ever had about orchids. Both Cyndi and Geneva were so willing to share their information on how to grow and care... More

These people are clearly passionate about what they do. This was an orchid collection unlike any I've ever seen, and they offer easy shipping to the US as well as all over the world. Prices average from $8-32 per plant (with a small collection priced higher). Some of the orchids are hybrids unique to the island. I had a blast... More

Book on line in advance to get the detailed tour. The showroom is free and open most days and worth the visit. For details of orchid culture take the greenhouse tour. The tour is only offered on selected days and times. A great overview of the science of orchid breeding- fun and informative! The modest fee was well worth it.... More

We had the opportunity to stop here during the day and we have never seen so many beautiful orchids all in one place. There were so many different ones it made it difficult to decide what to buy. They make it very easy to get your purchase back home if you don't want to take it with you. They ship... More

If you are going to or from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, from Hilo, you must stop at Akatsuka Orchid Gardens. It is on Highway 11 so you will pass it going to the park. You will be overwhelmed by the beauty of all of the orchids in bloom. It is better than visiting a greenhouse at a famous botanical garden,... More

Nineteen years ago we visited these gardens and purchased a dendrobium orchid. Today it is almost 4 feet tall and has 7 flowering spikes. It was my first orchid and it took me awhile before I figured out how to get it to bloom regularly. But in the meantime it survived my experiments....Thank you Akatsuka for providing me with the... Visited this establishment with a Nephew, who lives on the Big Island. We could not believe the number of various orchids existing in one place. My companion must have taken 50 pictures of different flowers as we perused the the facility. Absolutely one of the most colorful exhibitions of nature in a confined area. Personnel were very friendly and flowers... More
