Much better than many places in Hawaii

It is a shop but what an offering of fabulous orchids including fragrant ones. You can just look but I suspect you will want to buy. Worth a long visit.

Worth stopping in for a look. The varieties of orchids will surprise you. Photographer's paradise. They will sell you plants and ship them home to you, but no one even approached us to try and sell us anything, so no pressure to buy. Nice relaxing indoor showroom. Restrooms, snacks and a gift shop! We did not take a tour so... More

Akatsuka Orchid Gardens is an example on how the climate on the Hilo side of the Big Island of Hawaii is ideal for orchid plant horticulture. Lots of rain, cool temperatures, cloudy partial shading and tropcial weather. The orchids at Akatsuka's are for sale while some outstanding specimen plants are only for exhibit. Higher up towards Volcano village, at the... More

I'm a fan of orchids. I purchased two and had them shipped home. They made the trip perfectly packaged and I'm now enjoying the plentiful blooms.

There are several greenhouses filled with beautiful orchids and if this is of great interest to you then a tour would probably be worthwhile. As it was our fix was gotten by just wandering in the reception area which also has many varieties of orchids. We just did not feel that our level of interest justified the price.

These orchids are unbelievably beautiful and awesome to photograph. The only thing better is the orchids in the wild. This garden is worth stopping by.

My first visit to Akatsuka was a few months ago and I really enjoyed it. They had so many beautiful orchids, I couldn't stop snapping pictures. Yesterday, there were some nice orchids but not nearly as many. We waited and we were trying to speak to one of the employees because we had specific questions and were interested in a... More

We were here 15 years ago and stopped in again. We understand that it is under new ownership. The orchids were beautiful and reasonably priced, but it was not as big a selection as there was in the past. Worth a short stop though.

These were the most beautiful orchids I have ever seen! They had a chocolate orchid and it actually smelled like a Hershey bar! This was a great tour, we showed ourselves around.
