came across this garden while driving the scenic road. it is a nice and well maintained garden with a lot of different plants. the ocean view is stunning. little downside: they had a few parrots in a really tiny cage, which was sad to see! we walked really fast and saw everything in one hours. entrance fee is 15$ and... Only $15. Spent over 2 hours checking out all of the plants, trees, flowers etc etc. So many gorgeous views and amazing smells. One of the most memorable places we visited. Glad we took the Scenic Route or we would have missed this completely. AMAZING!!!!

There may be a better botanical garden somewhere, but I haven't seen it. I even discussed this very point with another visitor who had been to New Zealand as well as other parts of the world and he concuured. Not many botanical gardens offer both ocean views and spectacular plants. This garden feels rustic and untamed athough it is constantly... More

The botanical gardens have done an excellent job at carving a nature trail out of the dense foliage. As you decend done path from the gift shop to the ocean you will find amazing varieties of plants and flowers. They have tried to preserve much of the existing plants while bringing new species as well. As you approach the ocean... More

My spouse wanted to visit here as he is a plant person. The plants and flowers were amazing, and the history of the garden is interesting. It is $15 per person entry fee, and worth it! We cut a coupon out of a visitor guide for a free gift. The gift is a cutting of a Ti plant that you... More

The garden was huge and awesome. It's a wonderful walk in a rain forest. It was created by a husband and wife team, and their passion comes through. It is thoughtfully planned. The plants are well labeled, so you learn a lot. It is steep at the beginning, but evens out and goes all of the way to the ocean,... More

This is a well designed tropical garden, with many amazing and even "strange" tropical plants. The hike down to the ocean is somewhat challenging (and not handicapped nor stroller friendly) but it is rewarding, as the view of the ocean is lovely.

We recently spent a few hours at HTBG. So many beautiful plants, trees, birds, waterfalls, and a wonderful ocean view awaits visitors at the bottom. It rained part of the time we were there, but it didn't affect our visit. The large, tree canopy kept most of the rain away from us. The steep walk down and back up the... More

Beautiful! Awesome plants and flowers, waterfalls, views of the ocean, and a peaceful hour-long walk through a tropical, peaceful forest. Convenient if on your way to Hilo/Volcano area of the Big Island.

From the first moments that you enter the gardens, you know you are in a very special place. The sloping walk through a rain forest brings you to winding paths that travel through a variety of gardens that introduce you to some of the most beautiful and exotic blooms I have very seen. We encountered waterfalls, a lily pond and... More
