The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. I love botanic gardens so I was excited to check out this one. It was very well maintained, the signage on the plants was very clear, and the staff friendly. I am grateful that the founders spent the time and money to turn an abandoned, overgrown valley into such a beautiful gem. I don't care if the plants are native... More

Good for people who love plants. Has a self guided tour that you can do at your own pace. Worth a visit. People who cannot walk are taken around by golf carts need to contact the gift shops to organize transportation.

With tropical plants from many places, this garden delights all the senses. Waterfalls, streams that flow into the ocean, and the blue Pacific itself frame the many gardens within a lovely and peaceful collection of botanicals. The orchid garden was amazing, but there are orchids everywhere! Not to be missed. $15 admission per adult was well worth it!

My husband loves plants and gardens so this sounded like a good stop for him at least--but t proved to be incredibly enjoyable for both of us! We spend about 90 minutes here and went at a fairly leisurely pace. The trip down is pretty steep and it had rained recently and was a bit slick so good walking or... More

Tropical Garden. You're in HAWAII so you think you've seen tropical, right? Well.... this garden is just awesome. Everytime I thought I'd see the most unusual, beautiful flower, we'd find a new one. I've always though of orchids as a single flower for corsages, but seeing them in profusion, in their natural growing state was amazing. Think of your English... More

What a jewel to go see. When we went in, they gave us a map and said the tour would take about an hour to ninety minutes. I spent four hours there and still felt like I wasn't done. If you are looking for all things tropical; flowers, trees, beach, waves, you will find it here. The high light of... More

This is a spectacular garden. There are so many interesting, unusual, and beautiful plants to see. Well worth the price of admission. It is a bit of a steep walk down (and back up), but easily done if you take your time (a golf cart tour is also available for those needing a bit of assistance). This is a must... More

North of Hilo, the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is an amazing feast for the eye. The walk is somewhat challenging - but well worth the effort. You may request a ride back to the top should you need assistance. Looking for a unique gift? Send a bouquet created from the flowers in the garden. The variety of flowers and other... More

Not only is the drive scenic, but you come up to the visitor parking then pay and soon you start your decent down this steep path into the woods. The couple who restored this land are by far the nicest people and deserve praise for this. They have before pictures of what the land looked liked and they transformed it... More

I am a floral designer so flowers are my passion but even our friends who said they would not have made this a choice to visit, loved the experience. We did not go prepared with bug spay but one can buy it when buying your ticket. Do not let the rather steep walk down the initial decline deter your visit.... More
