The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. At a time when rainforest plants are disappearing at an alarming rate, the Garden is working to preserve as many species as possible for the benefit of future generations.

Beautiful botanical garden. The plants were just amazing. They have a large variety of everything tropical. We went there in January 2016 and some of the flowers were 5' and 6' long. The blooms were longer but not as fresh as in November 2014 when we were there. This is a walking garden but they have benches along the way... More

Trails that lead you to various botanical species which are well marked set amount waterfalls, the ocean, ponds with fish, bird sanctuary. Historical references are illustrated throughout. It appears this may also be a memorial tribute location for the locals. Very educational, peaceful way to spend a couple hours.

Well worth the drive and the $15 entrance fee. It's quite a trek down the valley and back up so wear decent shoes. You'll be in for a treat.

Length of trail is good and nice to get all the way to the ocean. Spent a good two hours visiting. More labels on plants would be helpful, but a great variety of species from many tropical environments around the world. Friendly people working there made us feel very welcome.

This is a self guided walking tour of the gardens. You will walk down a steep hillside and view the plants and trees along the way. You will walk back up that same hill to exit the gardens. There are quite a few benches on the hill and along the paths to rest and admire the plants. Wear comfortable shoes,... More

This is a must do if you are on the Hilo side of the Island. Be prepared to do a lot of walking but it is well worth the trip. Cost is $15.00 a person if I remember

We toured the gardens as part of a private tour in Hawaii. Having a knowledgeable guide was a major plus, but even if you are on your own I would definitely recommend a visit. The gardens are divided up into several themed areas based on the type of trees, flowers and plants in that section. The gardens include several waterfalls,... More

This botanical garden is spectacular. It goes from the road down to the shore (a little steep at times) and in between there is a vast array of plants, streams, waterfalls, etc. It is just gorgeous. My favorite garden of 4 I have visited in Hawaii.

Beautiful setting and amazing ocean view. Bring you lunch and have a picnic under the trees and looking at the ocean.
