Owner description: The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. I was amazed at how beautiful this place was even in the month of January! It is so green and lush with many beautiful flowering plants in bloom. They have beautiful, colorful parrots, Onomea Falls, an area that goes along the ocean, even bananas growing! I really enjoyed seeing this. It takes about 1-1.5 hours to tour and was a... More

This is a gorgeous place. I love flowers, and I learned so much while strolling through the gardens. Thank you to the staff, who were so helpful and pleasant. This is a MUST SEE place when you plan your vacation!

A husband and wife team took a garbage-filled gorge and turned it into a tropical paradise. The walk is extremely steep - but there are railings I used to help haul myself up. The well-labeled plantings showcase the variety of flowering plants and native trees. I fell in love with an enormous mango tree, and was astounded by all the... More

My wife and I chose to visit the Hawaiian Tropical Botanical Garden, based on the many positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We are staying at a holiday rental outside Kona so it took about 1 1/2 hours to reach the gardens, taking the Saddle Road route. By the time we reached the gardens we were happy to stretch our legs.... More

This garden was a highlight of our stop along the Hilo side of the big island. The array of tropical plants is breathtaking in a tremendous setting along Onomea Bay.

After spending most of the day at Hawaii Volcanoes NP we stopped here on our way back to Waikoloa. The Tropical Gardens are located on the 4 mile scenic stretch of the "old highway 19" along the coast. The fee was $15 apiece and we took about an hour touring the grounds. The tour consists of a loop that winds... More

This is a don't miss spot. It can be a bit hard to find and down a beautiful small road in the rain forest. Once you get there the folks are really nice and helpful. The gardens will take your breath away even in the winter months. The Onomea waterfalls is breath taking. After you have followed the paved trail... More

This was a really great place to see the flowers and get a feel for some of the untamed beauty of the ocean! The orchid garden was excellent, and the paths were winding. We spent about 2 hours wandering through the gardens, and I think our favorite areas were near the ocean - the waves were just beautiful. I highly... More

If you enjoy beautiful gardens, this is for you. As a naturalist/nature educator, I felt they fell down on the education side. Some signs are far enough off the path that you can't read them. (I've run into this before, so I bring binoculars.) Some signs are covered by plants. The biggest problem was that unlike signs in the National... More
