I go to Maku'u Farmer's Market every Sunday and get my produce for the week. I like to go early before crowd gets to big. There is live music, great prepared foods, and wonderful produce as well as fresh flowers, live orchids, plants, crafts of many sorts. It is a great place to people watch as well.

Market is a broad assortment of food, fruits, veggies, jewelry, Hawaiian clothing, and other souvenirs. Free to visit, $1 to park, with restrooms on site. Not too different from most small town farmer's markets with the exception being the local fruits.

On our first day driving to where we were staying we happened upon this market. Loved the ambience and atmosphere. Very family friendly, lots of different cultures and foods on offer. A variety of people passing through and trading there gave a feeling of real individuality, creativity and independence. Definitely recommend as a complete opposite to bland corporate places such... Every Sunday, this market sparkles with odds-and-ends, fresh fruit and veggies, prepared food (even Samoan foods), live music, fortune tellers, even aging hippies dressed in their Sunday best. This is worth the trip.

Overall less fine arts and crafts and foodie items then the market in Hilo Best items at the market 1) grilled cheese sandwiches with olive tapenade and goat cheese-- Russian ladies-- so do tasty-- give them a 10 out of 10. 2) green papaya salad -- there was a line the entire market time -- the lady makes your salad... This market has an overwhelming array of produce, food and souvenirs. Most of it seems to be reasonably priced and very fresh. It is well organized with lots of parking. Not just a market, it is obviously a social event for the community. Give it a look.

I think there's more here on other days. I went on a Thurs but, there was still plenty to see and I got some great fresh produce. In a car park on the main drag so you have to look for it a bit

Excellent selection of handcrafted tee shirts. Lots of produce. 25 cent papayas. Lots of crafts but they were not of interest, Clean rest rooms. $1 to park.

Take your time to wander around this great market. On Sunday it transforms from an empty lot to a lively market with a wide variety of fabulous fresh fruits and vegetables, tropical plants and arts and crafts. You know it's great by the number of locals that regularly attend but the friendly people are also very welcoming to tourists.
