Any trip to the Big Island should include this! It was on my bucket list to see real lava flowing, and this delivered big time. Tour was very informative about the history of the island and the volcanic activity. Only thing I would caution is the boat ride out to the lava flow site. The waves in the harbor are... More

This trip was a lot of fun. They were well organized and very much had safety in mind. They went out of their way when sealife was spotted and did everything they could to get you a great shot. Sky did a great job explaining the sites and history. He was very knowledgeable and added a great deal to the... More

We really enjoyed the evening boat tour. The guys do a great job explaining what we are seeing, love showing off their big island! I can only imagine how impressive it would be actually seeing lava going into the ocean! But just because it wasn't on our tour didn't disappoint us. We weren't exacty sure what it would be like,... A different view of Lava formation. This ride in combination with Paradise Helicopter gives you 2 different perspectives of the lava formation and the power of the sea. We didn't get wet at all and the sea was not that rough. Although I feel the boat and crew are very professional and take the position that your safety is paramount.

LOT is quite clear about the status of volcanic activity in the region and provides links to the USGS updates. They are also clear that the ocean can be rough and that you are likely to get wet and tossed about. Shane (owner) takes this very seriously so if the ride or experience surprises or disappoints you then you haven't... More

Be sure to do your homework first! Know that lava has not flowed to the sea since August 2012 (or thereabouts). Also, that this end of the island gets a LOT of rain and this boat tour goes anyway. The ocean currents can be quite rough so this ride WILL be very rough and you WILL get tossed about. You... More

Be fully prepared for a LONG, but definitely worth it hike! Bring extra clean socks to avoid nasty blisters. Once you're halfway, you'll wish it's over until you see the lava flowing and then you'll get your second wind!

Very exciting boat tour. The coastline of the Big Island is amazing and the tour guide certainly knew his stuff. I would recommend! No bottled water provided though ... Mind you, it's far too choppy to drink properly!

TLDR Version: -Hard hike, but worth it. -Wear sturdy backpacking boots if you have them (don't do the garden boots unless you have to; if you do, opt for a size on the bigger side otherwise your toes will get smashed) -Don't bring young children (<14) - But if you do, John is great with them -John provides a backpack,...
