My husband and I just returned from a trip to the Big Island where we stayed at the Outrigger Keauhou Resort, a two-minute walk from Kahalu'u Beach. Decided not to go through a tour to visit Kealakekua Bay and searched out other snorkelling sites instead. We went to Kahalu'u Beach to investigate the snorkelling and were impressed by the huge number of colorful fish in the area. This is a great family snorkeling beach, but not a good "laying on the sand" beach. It is well protected by a lava "reef" which has attracted all sorts of marine life.
