Very calm beach for swimming, lots more sand than others on the Big Island, which tend to have a lot of lava rock. Nice picnic areas. Clean changing rooms with showers inside of changing stalls for privacy. Camping is allowed with permits.

This is a beautiful, uncrowded beach park, perfect for families. There is plenty of parking, nice restrooms and outdoor showers, picnic tables, big shady trees, etc. And the beach itself is very kid-friendly, without the big undercurrent and hard shorebreak found at many other westside area beaches.

We stopped at the beach and walked on the sand beach for a while. The area is very pretty, with a view of the ocean and some of the exclusive home areas in the distance. Our guests had never been to Hawaii before, so I had gotten the woman a pretty lei to welcome here. Tradition says when you are... More

I would say this is between a 3 1/2 and a 4. There are lots of trees along the beach, so there is lots of shade (also lots of leaves and nuts on the beach). There is plenty of parking, some even in shade. It doesn't seem to get super busy. There are warm showers and restrooms. The water is... More

Nice setup. With basketball court and all facilities. Lots of parking - frequented by locals. Also BBQ spots right on the beach under shady trees. Not so nice: the beach seemed pretty messy and the water more muddy - I know, I'm spoiled by Hapuna ... Nevertheless - waters are pretty calm and shallow - perfect for kids.

Ok beach, lots of locals. Easy car access and water to wash down. The water is shallow and it is great for little ones. No real surf fairly protected bay. Great burger place about 10 minutes north.

We were here in July and the winds are coming from the southwest; apparently that means this time of year, you will have very little wave action on the Northwest shore beaches like Spencers Beach. That means its a very safe beach for the kids to play on the shoreline or wading in the water. If you want to snorkel,... More
