When we come to Hawaii, we like to "beach hop" for one day. We started with this beach, and it's absolutely beautiful. The sand is white, the water is clear, and the beach is lined with trees. The waves were a little strong for our keikis (2.5 and 5 years old), but they were happy to just play in the... more

My family and I (2 adults, 2 kids) stayed in the A-frames at Hapuna Beach for 3 nights in August, 2009. The A-frames are basically single-room huts, about 8' x 16', with a wooden sleeping platform running along each side and a picnic table in the middle. The bottom halves of the walls are solid. The upper halves are screens.... more

Great beach for tanning or swimming! Very clear water and totally clean, white sand without all of the coral and reefs. While there was really nothing to see (no fish as there is no reef), it was still fun to go in with the snorkel equipment and look around. Also, as the waves can get unexpectedly high---it was great to... more

My fiance and I live in Hilo on the big island, (east coast of the big island) we have seen pictures of hapuna beach all over the internet for "top exotic beaches in the world" so when we finally went..we are extremely happy! The water is literally turquoise and clear and beautiful white sand. It's great for tanning and taking... more

Jan 8/09 we read in the guide that Hapuna was a beautiful beach, so we drove up from Kona to swim. We arrived in the afternoon and the surf was just too strong. I was knocked down by the waves several times, and there was an undertow so it wasn't safe. I am a good swimmer, but this was too... more

We drove from our hotel in Kona to see this beach based on recommendations from a well-know Hawaiian guidebook. We were not disappointed! It was huge! We had been to the Mauna Kea beach the day before and Hapuna Beach was at least 3 times the size of Mauna Kea. It is actually a state park and therefore there were... more

This is a great beach. White sand abound. If you are looking for a sandy bottom beach, this is the one you are looking for! As far as I am concerned, this is one of the best beaches of all the islands(that has public access) This is a park, so you do not need a 4 wheel drive to get... more

We booked through Priceline and got a great rate. We were there for 5 nights as part of our anniversary/birthday trip. We were upgraded to partial oceanview and the Manager sent us a bottle of wine as a congratulations gift! The hotel is georgous. The rooms are huge, including the double sink bathroom. It is a great central location to... more

A white sand beach with black lava formations and strange tree formations... where else would you find this but the Big Island. Very gorgeous at sunset, especially from the left corner of the beach. more

So I'm use to East Coast beaches in the summertime, excuse my ignorance, but this water was cold! It was so cold I only got in ankle-deep. It is a beautiful beach and the snack hut makes great smoothies, but there's a reason why everyone (except for a few brave souls) is sunbathing. more
