But you have to hike down a 400 ft trail and back up to visit this gem, The trip is worth it and not that difficult but plan for it, bring water to drink and don't wear flip flops. You'll love it once there.

It's a long hike, but a beautiful place. Well worth the drive to Waipio valley. Another wonderful place on the Big Island.

I absolutely loved this tour. I ride, my husband doesn't and we both had a great time. The horses are well cared for, safe, and sure footed. The tour guides were great. The guy that drove us down was hilarious! The scenery is breath taking! If you enjoy horseback riding, do this for sure! Let them know that you can... More

Absolutely worth seeing.... if you go into the valley take a jeep...Please don't do the horse pull. It is not fair to those horses to work them like that . Pick a cruelty free alternative. ♡

Hiked in from the top of the hill. It's a workout up and down, but the views are stunning and since the road in is paved, pretty safe for those in reasonable health. When we reached the bottom of the valley, we enjoyed the good company of the horses and then traversed some streams to get back to a waterfall.... More

Drove down to the valley floor. Its a steep hill so its best if you have a 4WD or if you can hitch a ride. The beach is pure black sands, and the waterfalls are incredible!

Our family of four had so much fun! Our guide drove us to the base of the valley, and we hiked from the stables along a mostly flat trail and through some streams where we could see farms and the verdant valley. The horses are gentle, and the guides were very helpful and also hilarious. My husband had never been... More

We have always wanted to hike down and have a picnic on the black sand beach at Waipio Valley. We began our hike down from the Look Out point using the roughly paved switchback road to the bottom. The road is used by locals and tours so you have to frequently step to the side of the road as motorcycles,... More

Love love love Waipio trail... We'd hiked this trail a dozen times... and cursed ourselves everytime we are hiking up... and then do it again everytime we are in Big island! The hike is north of kohala coast... You can stay in kona or waikoloa area but will have to drive up early to make the hike. Best, stay at... More

Waipi'o is an isolated, bucolic gem of taro farms, waterfalls and shaded trails, but it's also down one of the steepest roads in the world and the locals don't take kindly to tourists on 4x4s. The ride with Na'alapa Stables was the perfect way to see the valley, led by locals who know the area intimately and are happy to... More
