Description: Waipio On Horseback offers special guided excursions on horseback in...
Waipio On Horseback offers special guided excursions on horseback in secluded Waipi'o Valley. Our small groups savor the charm of this 2 1/2 hour adventure in old Hawaii. This trek takes a leisurely pace. Our guides narrate throughout the ride, explaining the history, legends and facts of life in the valley. The path meanders through lush jungle trails along the hillside; through streams and rivers; and on to ancient Hawaiian villages. Riders see dramatic 1,200-foot waterfalls, taro patches, lotus ponds, wild horses, exotic flowers, plants, native trees and birds. See one of Hawaii's oldest forms of farming that produces taro, a Hawaiian staple that helps feed our local community. We meet at the WOH Barn located 7-1/2 miles toward Waipio from Honokaa. Riders travel via four-wheel drive vehicle into Waipi'o Valley-ancient Hawaii's "Valley of the Kings." We depart from the WOH Barn at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm daily. The trail ride begins on the valley floor. Then a four-wheel drive vehicle takes the riders out of the valley and drops them off back at the WOH Barn. A minimum of two and a maximum of fourteen riders are allowed on each excursion. Refunds are given on cancellations received in our office 24 hours or more in advance of the reserved ride time. Because of our remote location, reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance. Weather plays a vital role in this tour's operation and can change rapidly. In case of hard rain or flood conditions, this tour is subject to cancellation. We will give as much advance warning as soon as possible in these situations. This is a unique and active tour. We recommend guests be agile and in good health. We suggest pants and covered shoes. Children under twelve years of age will be accepted if they are with a responsible adult or are experienced riders.

My bf booked this tour for us a month before we visited the big island. The lady said she had us in the books and just to call the day before in case there were any changes on timing of the tour, etc. We called the day before and she asked us to call another number, which he did and... More

My sister recalled a horrifying experience where wild horses spooked her horse here. Unsolicited, the neighbor at Orchid Isle Fiber arts at Kukuihaele particularly mentioned Well-Behaved Horses! Thelma, who took our reservation, is a really nice local person with great info and recommendations about things to do.

You will be amazed at the extreme beauty of the Waipio Valley! The "Valley of the Kings" is absolutely breathtaking. One of the best ways to experience it is on horseback with the "Waipio On Horseback" team. Our guides, Michael and Ronald were lots of fun. They were very knowledgeable about the history of the area. They matched each rider... More

Took a my daughters (7&9 years old) on the horseback ride. They told me it was the best day of their lives!! Our tourguide, Micha, was VERY knowledgeable of the history of the valley. He shared history of the land and waterfalls throughout the ride and gave us fruit from his garden at the end of the tour. He took... More

Awesome experience. Very surreal.. staff is amazing and horses are too. The Valley of the Kings is a must see. Riding with the horses is 3 dimensional and no experience can top it.

Knowledgeable staff and great at matching horses to riders. My young teen girls were very inexperienced and had a great time. The horses were very sweet. Care of horses seemed good. It's such a wet place that I hope they get a chance to dry out!

The view from the rim is breathtaking. The staff was fun, friendly, and informative. I would have liked to have riden the horses all the way to the beach in a loop pattern, rather than back-tracking along the same path. I'm glad I went!

Okay, so i am a little biased, I am blessed to live on the island. I absolutely love this ride. I would go everyday if I could. Our guide was fabulous, patient, informative and wonderful. No trip to the Big Island is complete without this!

We took a morning ride and enjoyed every moment. Fun to ride up and down the steep road, and the views of the valley are amazing. The horses are gentle and well trained. Guides experienced and informative. I give them extra points for providing riding hats. Don't forget to tip your guide!
