Waipio On Horseback offers special guided excursions on horseback in...

Waipio On Horseback offers special guided excursions on horseback in secluded Waipi'o Valley. Our small groups savor the charm of this 2 1/2 hour adventure in old Hawaii.

This trek takes a leisurely pace. Our guides narrate throughout the ride, explaining the history, legends and facts of life in the valley. The path meanders through lush jungle trails along the hillside; through streams and rivers; and on to ancient Hawaiian villages. Riders see dramatic 1,200-foot waterfalls, taro patches, lotus ponds, wild horses, exotic flowers, plants, native trees and birds. See one of Hawaii's oldest forms of farming that produces taro, a Hawaiian staple that helps feed our local community.

We meet at the WOH Barn located 7-1/2 miles toward Waipio from Honokaa. Riders travel via four-wheel drive vehicle into Waipi'o Valley-ancient Hawaii's "Valley of the Kings." We depart from the WOH Barn at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm daily. The trail ride begins on the valley floor. Then a four-wheel drive vehicle takes the riders out of the valley and drops them off back at the WOH Barn.

A minimum of two and a maximum of fourteen riders are allowed on each excursion. Refunds are given on cancellations received in our office 24 hours or more in advance of the reserved ride time.

Because of our remote location, reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance. Weather plays a vital role in this tour's operation and can change rapidly. In case of hard rain or flood conditions, this tour is subject to cancellation. We will give as much advance warning as soon as possible in these situations.

This is a unique and active tour. We recommend guests be agile and in good health. We suggest pants and covered shoes. Children under twelve years of age will be accepted if they are with a responsible adult or are experienced riders.

This is an enjoyable experience for all level riders. The scenery is beautiful. You get a different perspective from the Waipi'o valley, looking up the mountain sides, seeing waterfalls as well as lush foliage. Sure footed horses will take you over the trails and through water crossings and before you know it, your ride is over - much too soon!

This was such a joy to do through an area of Hawaii that one would not normally see! We started out at the main location and were then driven down to the horses in a 15 passenger 4-wheel drive van. It was quite the experience getting down a 20% grade one lane road but it was fun and beautiful. Once... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our excursion with Waipi'o on Horseback. From the steep drive down to the valley to the laid-back horseback ride through Hawaiian beauty, we loved every minute of it. Our guides, Sarah & Micah, were both very friendly and helpful. Sarah was sweet to point out flowers, plants, and such along the way and she even recommended a... More

This was an amazing adventure. Getting to ride a horse through the beautify valley was perfect. Sara, our guide, was so nice and provided a lot of helpful info along the way. Micah, our driver, was also so nice and very chill and funny at the same time while driving us down to the valley. This was our first time... More

It rained almost the whole time but luckily they have rain jackets people can wear. My wife and I had a blast.

We joined the tour with our two friends and three young kids with Ronald and Dava and had a memorable ride down the valley on the van and through the horseback riding. During the horseback riding, we saw wild horses, picked guava off the trees and saw many other fruits trees along the way. Back at the office, we enjoyed... More

Friendly folks, healthy horses, stunning scenery. A little more off-established-trail riding would push this to the 5-star level. Well worth it for the experience.

We are always excited to try horseback riding on our trips but are very aware of the variable quality one might encounter. Waipi'o on Horseback is a true quality operation. Thoughtful about safety, quality of the experience for the group, and surprisingly, a superb interpretive presentation of the history of the valley and insight to the agriculture and culture. The... I'll start out by saying I would definitely recommend doing the ride in the valley. It was absolutely beautiful. But I wasn't impressed with Waipio on Horseback. First, upon checking in, we were 'greeted' by a not so friendly guy that expressed his irritation with us for coming early (we were 15mins early). Wow, really? Would you rather us be... More

The van ride down the steep slope into the valley is almost enough. But then you get on a horse and ride through this valley, complete with waterfall, farms, and truly Breathtaking views. The guides are helpful and very nice Thanks again Dava. They accommodate those of us who are not "horse people". This was my second horseback ride. The... More
