What an awesome experience this was! I am so glad we selected Captain Dan for our whale watching adventure. He really does know his stuff and is not only very informative, he is also really funny as well. We were super lucky on our trip in that we came upon a group of 5 large humpbacks that spent 15-20+ minutes... More

Honokohau Harbour was easy to find. We did see a mother humpback and calf with an escort whale, usually a young male humpback, but they were just coming to the surface, no spectacular breaching or tail flapping like we had seen from the shore in North Kohala..... good shore viewing areas for whales were in front of the Hilton at... While maybe a bit pricey, we enjoyed our three hour Captain Dan cruise. Unfortunately, we didn't see any whales but that's just mother nature. We did receive vouchers for a free cruise next time we're back. The crew, including Captain Dan, were friendly, informative and attentive. They serve very light snacks during the trip, so if you want something more... More

Our first trip on our last visit resulted in no whale sightings. We spoke to many people that week and no one had seen any whales on any ocean trips. It was still fun and educational. Captain Dan gave us tags to try again at no cost when ever we wanted to. This trip we had seen some Whale spouts... More

We were on a small boat with fewer than 20 of us, so everyone was able to see the whales and other wildlife we encountered. Dan gives a nice narrative as we travel, but also gives some quiet time when everyone can just sit back and keep their eyes on the water for spotting whales. We say a number of... More

We were really looking for an intimate experience whale watching. When we did this in Friday Harbor, Washington, we had the great fortune to find Captain Jim Maya who took us and one other couple out for a day of whale watching, so we envisioned the same set-up - us and one or two other couples. What we got was... More

Have made several trips with Capt. McSweeney and have never been disappointed. We always learn something new. This year the humpbacks put on quite a show and in past visits we saw spinner dolphins and sperm and pilot whales when the humpbacks were not around.

We always have a good trip with capt. Dan and crew. Doesn't matter how many whales you see and you will see them in season always a great ride. Spinner dolphins, island views, great narration. Recommend you check them out.

The staff at Captain Dan's were amazing. They were very knowledgeable about the whales and the other marine life. We headed out on the 7am tour with our two kids-ages 6 and 8. It took an hour to find a whale and by then they were very motion sick. The ocean wasn't very rough that morning, our kids are just... More

We went snorkeling 2 days earlier and saw a lot of activity but saw very little on this excursion while our friends went out on another boat and saw 2 whales breaching together. I saw more whales from shore than on the watch, very disappointed :(
