What a beautiful beach! Lots of surfers and good waves. Getting here is a little confusing and parking can be a problem, but it is worth the trouble to visit!

The surf spot of the East Side for sure. The river comes into the ocean here, so watch the tide. Mostly surfers here, not really a beach to lounge on...large pebbles too...ouch on the feet.

There IS seaglass to be found. Go down the stairs and turn left. Walk towards where the river meets the ocean. It is rocky and unstable but worth it. Once you get to the bend, move around rocks and dirt and you will find a lot. We were there after 3pm and the area was shaded and there was a... More

Where the river meets the ocean, in a tranquil park setting, is the perfect place to pull off the highway to enjoy the scenery and peacefulness. A must see on the drive to Hilo

This isn't a beach for sunbathing. But it is a great beach for learning how to surf because it's relatively safe. Just be careful of the sharp rocks and always be mindful of where you are so you don't get sucked out too far. But if you are paying attention you will have a good time!

This beach is 4 miles north of Hilo. There is not a lot of parking and is frequented by surfers. There are stairs down to the beach which are steep but quite manageable. There also are life guards on duty and bathrooms available. The beach is not large but it was not crowded any time I was there. I love... More

Nice beach for surfing and boogie boarding. Locals are nice and helpful. Great spot for a picnic, either on the sand or grassy area.
