This was the highest on our must do list for the Big Island and we were not disappointed! We had the doors off and could feel the heat from the volcano. The pilot was very informative and interesting. We did not expect to see rivers or streams of lava so we were not disappointed in "pools" we saw. The falls... More

We did the volcano by air and land trip and it was fantastic. 1.5hrs+ of flying time, saw amazing lava flows and incredible waterfalls. A great overview of the whole of the Big Island. The ground trip through the park was brilliant too. Great guides and pilots and friendly ground crew. Highly recommended.

Paradise receptionist over the phone and at the site mis-represented to us as to the extent of lava view from the helicopter. They also give us an excuse that the lava flow varies from hour to hour. But that is not true, do not buy into it. Our assigned pilot did not make any effort to help us better see... More

This review was unfortunate and puzzling for us. This gentlemen was with a group of passengers, including many in his own family, who came back joyous and excited from their flight, even showing photos they took of the lava to our reservations staff. In fact, the lava was superb that day - I too was flying guests in the area... More

This is by all accounts a very expensive experience. We opted for the short, 45 minute tour over the volcano. We were interested in the helicopter experience, and being able to see hot flowing lava, something not otherwise visible, pushed us to just do it. The people working for paradise were wonderful and very friendly; we felt safe at all... More

I'm scared of heights and I'm scared of flying... But flying over the lava in a helicopter with no doors was amazing and a must do activity whist you're on Big Island! The pilot was great and gave you lots of information about what you were seeing and actively hunted down the glowing lava for you to see. His knowledge... More

Flying in a helicopter with the doors off was outstanding. Our pilot Dan took us up close enough to the flowing lava that we could feel the heat and smell the burning trees from the flow. He provided great descriptions of what we were seeing with historical facts about the volcanoes as well. Our young boys thoroughly enjoyed the ride... More

I booked the fire and water tour with doors-off, only to get a chance to spot lava. And we did. A beautiful strip of lava coming down the volcano. Just for that, the tour was worth it. However, the tour could be improved. First of all, we spent way too much time looking at the devastated trees and the grey... More

It's awesome to go without doors in the helicopter. Pilot is friendly and supplied a lot of information.

We went on the doors off volcano tour. You must be flexible in your timing to take a helicopter tour out of Hilo (our tour was canceled twice) but it is well worth the wait and a not to be missed experience. Once you are floating over a boiling caldera of red hot lava you'll forget the schedule changes! Taken... More
