I went on this excursion this morning and it was amazing. I admi being nervous about it, with some of the below reviews, but the crew was fantastic and do care about your safety. If you want to be pampered then don't do this. The companies name says it all. Now to the trip out to the lava flow. When... more

This was the best thing we did on the island. We took the sunset boat tour to the flowing lava. We read all the trip advisor reviews before we selected them. Some bad...most good. The first thing that must be said is this is definitely an adventure. I would not recommend taking small children. The ride out was rough...it's not... more

This was one of the highlights of our Big Island trip. We initially hiked to see the lava ocean entry but was a bit disappointed because it was so far away so we decided it would be worth the risk to go there by boat. We booked our seats through a glass artist at the lava viewing site, and he... more

The other tour LAVA BOAT is a VERY SMALL boat, like a fishing boat. The Lava Ocean Adventures crew is great and this is relatively safe. We got to experience a new lava flow on November 5th 2009. We went out early in the am before the sun came up. Glad the water was calm because this boat can be... more

Very dangerous! They were told by officials to stay about 300 yards away and got to 10 to 15 feet from the lava where we could have had a bench collapse. We were also right in the hydrocloric acid, although they said the dangerous gases were on the top and the botton gases were safe. (Hydrocloric gas stays in your... more

We did a lot of research and talked with individuals on the phone. This group is both honest and informative. Believe them when they say "the night trips usually don't go because of currents/winds". We learned from locals that this is the truth! The drive from Kona was worth every minute. We got up at 1:00 am...arrived in Hilo at... more

My rating is based on my limited interaction with LOA and not on the trip. I got up at 2am, met at the Aloha gas station in Pahoa at 3:45 and ended up not going on this tour after reading the release form a few times. I was also told not to have tomato products the night before and no... more

DON'T TAKE THIS TOUR. I've heard the "locals" despise this tour operator. I now understand why. It's not the lies about time of tour, safety. It's their greed for your money and they couldn't care less about your safety. Few tours shame what Hawaii is all about as much as they do. It's all about the money for them. Here's... more

This was our second trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. We did the helicopter tour with the first visit and we were looking for a different adventure and this was it. IT WAS AWSOME. The only down thing was having to leave Kona at 1am to be in Hilo. Had we been staying in Hilo we would not have... more

This boat tour is one of my favorite things to do... period. My girlfriend and I found out about them via their website a year ago while visiting The Big Island, and that first tour has me hooked on lava. So hooked that I chose to do a photography project on the current lava flow, with a special emphasis on... more
