As a treat we decided to book a helicopter tour and we were not disappointed with what we saw. (Flowing lava and heaps of other cool stuff) From our arrival and safety briefing to our pilot Tom everything was professional and we all felt safe. Our party opted for the VOLCANO and WATERFALL tour with a timing of 50 minutes.... More

I have to say this was an unexpected highlight during our trip to the big island. Our guide was knowledgeable, but gave us the chance to also just sit in awe of our surroundings. We were able to see some lava flows outside Pahoa, and the waterfalls were beautiful! I could have spent hours more in the air here and... More

We booked our tour with Safari several weeks in advance. And aside from being 5 minutes late to pick us us (due to a flat tire, so completely understandable), we had an amazing experience. David, our driver, was very helpful and informative on our sorry ride to the airport. Our pilot, Gardner, was extremely knowledgeable, flew us over the eruption... More

We couldn't fly that day so why 5 starts. They picked us up at the ship and brought us to the airport. Unfortunately they couldn't take us up because it was too windy. They didn't charge us for anything and they were super pleasant. It was a bummer that we couldn't go but when they say safety first and it... More

I greatly enjoyed our tour with Safari. The staff was friendly and helpful in making reservations for our weather-challenged schedule. The pilot was friendly, well-informed, and had our best "visual tour" interests in mind. We did get to see several hotspots (glowing red cracks in the black lava), some unfortunate burning trees that were too close, older lava flows that... More

I booked my partner into the Deluxe Volcano Tour. Upon booking we were almost immediately replied to by one of the staff who promptly booked him into the exact tour he wanted. They were kind and courteous in dealing with us over the phone and email. We traveled to Hilo and found the same professionalism at booking did not exist... More

Made reservations for a flight, they place my credit on hold and after telling me to be at the Hilo airport at the prescribed time, they called me and cancelled the flight on me, because other people backed out and went to the Kona side. It was more than unprofessional, since they were aware that I was driving from Kona... More

Paul M, Chief Pilot at Safari Helicopter Tours, responded to this review

This reviewer called and to make a last minute reservation for a flight that was 2 hours later while driving to Hilo from Kona. The staff took their credit card information on a contingency basis, informed them they needed two or three more people to confirm the flight, which they said they understood. The staff worked for the entire time... More

We loved our helicopter ride with our pilot, Gardner. He was obviously very skilled and had a soothing voice as he guided us on the history of the area, the volcano, and how the Hawaiians manage the nature/risk around them. It was very cool to fly over an active volcano and to see the waterfalls. We were afraid that being... More

My partner and I took a 45min helicopter ride with Safari helicopter tours over the lava flow area out of Hilo, and over a series of waterfalls and coast, and really enjoyed it. The Safari staff were professional, friendly and helpful, and we felt in good hands with our pilot, who was also very informative about the volcano and the... More

Very much worthwhile. Our pilot went out of his way to answer all the questions (and there were many) posed by our 12-year-old girls as we flew with him over the hot flowing lava.
