This was my second trip with Safari helicopters having taken the same trip last year. I was somewhat disappointed this year as we made only one pass over the Pu' O' o vent and then spent the rest of the time following the flow to Pahoa and then on to look at some waterfalls nearer to Hilo. I would have... More

My husband and I did the Deluxe Volcano Waterfall Safari and we were not disappointed! We knew that seeing lava activity can be a bit hit and miss and were prepared to not see anything at all but I think the Lava Gods decided to put on a show for our 10th wedding anniversary! There had been good lava activity... More

I had been looking forward to doing this flight for months, and was not disappointed. Our pilot Paul was experienced and highly knowledgeable of the history and up to date happenings. With all of these things you cannot control the weather or volcanos, the unusually dry season is not helping the water flow at the waterfalls, and the lava was... More

It was a unique experience flying over an active volcano. The pilot had a lot of information and history for us. Unfortunately, it was delivered in a very bland manner, he sounded bored. Also, we saw several other helicopters much closer to the volcano than we were. We thought he would circle down, but never did. Also, we got there... More

We flew with Safari in February. It was our first time in a helicopter, and Paul, our pilot, was great. He told us everything about the area, we got a good view of the volcano, and he even made a circle around for us to see Rainbow Falls. The ride itself was a bucket list adventure, and we were glad... Paul M, Chief Pilot at Safari Helicopter Tours, responded to this review

Since nobody flies helicopter tours at night, there is no “best time” to see the lava flow. As soon as the lava comes to the surface it starts to solidify and turns a silvery color. Unless there is a cloudy overcast, this is what you will see. We never guarantee what you will or not see since we are not... More

This was on my bucket list and it was wonderful. Our pilot, Gardner was friendly and professional. You could tell he really loved this island and its volcanoes, I am hard to impress, but I was impressed. This was well worth the money. There is no other way possible to see glowing lava right now. Words can not describe the... More

Safari offered a free shuttle from our Pride of America cruise ship. Check in was easy and stress free and boarding the clean and well-maintained helicopter was a smooth process. Paul is an expert pilot who put any fears I had of flying away. Flying around the venting volcano and observing the gray "lava fingers" (paths that the lava had... More

We paid the few extra $$ and sat up front with the pilot. We only did the volcano tour, but wish we had done the falls too. It was wonderful! The pilot is informative and his voice is so calming. He flies with bare feet, we got a kick out of that! Everyone was very accommodating. One note: You can... More

Our first time to fly in a helicopter so we were quite apprehensive, but Paul is not just an expert pilot, he is also an excellent narrator and tour guide for our approx 50 minute flight over the Big Island volcanoes. This is absolutely the best way to see the volcanoes as some of the sights are not just physically... More

We had our first helicopter ride over the volcano on Big Island with Safari Helicopters. Note, they are located at the commuter terminal which is not the main terminal at Hilo airport (but right next to it in a separate building). They have a limited amount of parking but it is free. Staff very friendly and helpful. Tour was excellent,... More
