A lovely island, not very big. I enjoyed the walk around the perimeter and keeping my eye out for any turtles what may have been lingering. There are picnic benches so is a good spot if you want to dine al fresco one day. I don't think you need any more than an hour here.

The fact this island was once part of the land, the city, and it was destroyed by a Tsunami. Devastation is obvious but it is amazing how life comes back through the trees, birds, etc.

Walking across the bridge to get to coconut island takes you back in history when Hilo was a target for at least 4 tsunamis. There is a tree that has the water height of each. There is more to the history of the island that just tsunamis. It goes back to Hawaiian culture.

We love going to Coconut Island in the early morning or late afternoons. The views of Hilo Town, Liliuokalani Park and the Ocean is fabulous. There are lots of trees and spots for you to find some shade, shallow areas to enter into the water if you want to go for swim and public restrooms for your convenience. This is... More

I found this park just after we had lunch , it is a nice stroll but I would have rather went to subway , brought a sandwich and sit under a tree or at tables and enjoy the view . It is a nice park. Make sure you read the history of the park .

Some friends invited us to come to Coconut Island with them for a picnic, and it was a great place for relaxing! People were really friendly and we played volleyball and soccer with a bunch of people just hanging out there. Jumping of the ledge is a must!

I love coconut island! It's a good place to go and relax in the sun or you can jump off the ledge which is fun! There are also showers which is nice to get the salt water off.

Interesting to read about the distruction of the last big tsunami. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy scenery and sounds of the ocean. Stroll around the gardens.
