On my first visit to Hawaii we stopped in Hilo on the Big Island and saw the falls. It was very majestic and romantic. Definitely a must see in Hilo.

This is a nice place to visit. When we stopped here it had not rained in awhile so it was not a big falls. It is just like a scenic view and not a very far off the main highway. It was nice but not spectacular. If you are close I would stop but I would not make a special... More

The waterfall starts above a perfect stone arch ( I guess this is why it got it's name) and it's a spectacular attraction. You can also take some trails through a patch of a tall trees and actually come right to the place where the water falls from (the trail goes there, but you probably don't want to let your... More

Rainbow falls is beautiful but I wish they would make walking trails up the river. There are small trails to get to the river but they are short and not safe for people who aren't aware of how strong the water can be when it's been raining a lot. It would be such a relaxing hike for avid park visitors... More

This waterfall is not an all day activity but a good spot to check out and worth it to go up the hill and kind of go off the path.

It was overcast when I visited, so obviously no rainbow effect. The water volume was down, so it was not in any other way spectacular. It's a very short walk from plenty of parking, and the area is pleasant, so it wasn't a wasted trip. If coming from the north, beware Google Maps directions - I got shunted off on... More

Easy access from the parking area. The waterfall is beautiful. Take a short hike up near the top and then into the jungle to see huge banyan trees.

This is a viewpoint from which the spectacular Rainbow Falls just outside Hilo may be viewed. There's plenty of easy parking plus a trail to the top of the falls as well as the main observation platform. The platform is wheelchair-accessible - the trail is not. Overall, this is a very worthwhile stop provided there's enough water in the river... More

Compared to many other nearby falls this was my least favorite. My kids more enjoyed climbing the massive banyan tree. The falls were ok but not worth the stop by themselves.

easy parking, easy hike, pretty falls. the stairs to the top of the falls is an easy climb and worth the additional view.
