Must see for nature lovers!! The falls are beautiful and free!! My favorite part was hiking up to the top and discovering a wondrous forest of Banyon Trees!! There's one particular tree that's very old and glorious... it's arm branches reach across to connect to other trees and creates a network of branches. It's like their all intertwined. One can... We live near the Rockies where we have some of the most beautiful waterfalls, so we're a little spoiled. Akaka Falls is nice enough for a visit if you're in the neighbourhood but not something to write home about.

We took a nice short stop here while touring Hilo. There were not too many people around, so we got some pretty good views of the Falls. Some of us in the group took a little hike up the path, and viewed the Falls from above, and could follow the path of the River as it flowed through the woods.... More

If there's one thing Hawaii has, it's rainbows, and they are beautiful. Rainbow falls is a must stop if you can.

This is a must do if you are in Hilo. It is near the town and is easy to find. The view of the falls from the bottom is excellent and you can walk up behind the falls to get another view.

Rainbow falls is a beautiful waterfall that is worth a quick stop. We were there in the late morning on a sunny day, and we actually saw the rainbow. It takes a few minutes to drive to the parking lot from town and a few steps to view the waterfall. Be sure to make a stop here.

The Rainbow falls are surprisingly close to downtown Hilo, and while there wasn't a rainbow when I was there, it was still a pleasant environment to visit. I brought my mosquito repellent just in case after reading the other reviews, and luckily didn't get bitten but I also didn't try to hike around the surrounding area either. It was just... More

If you're in Hilo it's worth taking the 10 minute drive up to see Rainbow Falls. Depending on the amount of the rain, the falls can be anywhere from scarily roaring to a slow trickle. It's not worth the risk for out-of-towners, but for those in Hilo--it's a quick drive and could result in some impressive views.

A very cool place to see a very interesting water fall. There's a very short hike to get a view from above. Otherwise it's only 100 ft from parking lot!! Waterfall drops in front of a lava tube. Super cool. Great for the family.

This is worth the visit if you are in Hilo. There is not much around and you can't swim in the falls like you can in Oahu. We did not see a rainbow but the scenery was still worthwhile. The small growth of trees near the top provided some interesting light scenery through the trees. This made up for the... More
