We were so excited to see these falls since they are on the cover of Fodors! We built them up in our minds and the view was less than grand. The site is not taken care of and the stairs that lead to the top of the falls is completely broken down. If it hadn't been labeled I would have... More

This is the second time I have visited Rainbow Falls. Both times we hiked to the back/front of the falls where you can get an even better and up close view. Some people were swimming in the little pools behind the falls. Be very careful though and don't get too close to the edge.

Behind our B&B in Hilo is a small river which forms this water fall downstream a bit. It is easy walking distance from the B&B so we liked it. However, the spot is obviously on the tour bus list and that was a little bit of a drawback. Most of the island is quiet and serene but when tour busses... More

This is a pretty cool waterfall to check out that is right there without the hike. You won't spend much time here but it is something cool to see.

This is another easy waterfall to see, and one of the best we saw on our drive around the island! It is easy to combine with Pee'e Pee'e Falls and Boiling Pots, and a quick 10 minute drive from Hilo.

If it's been raining, it will be flooded, and the water will be dirty. The waterfall is beautiful, but there's a small trail leading to a place to swim (despite all the no swimming signs), under the waterfalls and I've heard there's cliffs to jump off far upstream. We didn't swim due to the high water level and fast current... More

I actually preferred Boiling pots just up the road. We had just recently seen Akaka Falls and this is not in the same league. There are just too many lovely falls in HI to see them all.

We took dozens of pictures here from the falls to the river to the banyan tree grove. If you have the person stand on the lower level with the falls in the background and take the picture from the upper level you will have a great picture of both. Another great place to just look around but allow an hour... More

We must have come on a bad day - we didn't see any rainbows. While it's close to Hilo and easy to find, there are better falls in other parts of the island.
