Nice waterfall, interesting trail

Close to town, beautiful place and waterfall is right next to parking area. Be sure to hike the trail to the left of the falls.

If you want to see a waterfall, but you're not up for hiking, rainbow falls is the place for you! It's right in the heart of the city of hilo! And you can drive right up and park and walk a few feet to the lookout! No hiking needed! And if you hit the right time of day, you will... More

We took a trip to Rainbow Falls. It was pretty much a potty stop for ladies with a long line and wait. The tour bus driver allowed 15 minutes to view the falls and advised not to go up the stairs. "It is a waste of time", he says. I went anyway and enjoyed the banyan trees more than the... More

It's a quick and easy stop to view Rainbow Falls and very close to downtown Hilo. It's easily accessible and has a large parking area. While the falls are beautiful, my kids loved walking to the top of the stairs and a field with an enormous Banyan Tree.

Very easy to get to. Waterfall was great! Easy hiking from 2 points to see the falls from different vantage points. Definitely go!

Akaka is more dramatic, but this is pretty too. A simple walk on paved road. If you've taken the time to do this, take the time to do the boiling pots up the road too.

Mind you when we got there it was later in the afternoon so perhaps we were not at the right time to see the rainbow but we didn't mind as it still was a beautiful waterfall just the same. I did get a bit concerned when we saw several people walking right up to the edge of the cliff where... More

A good view of some pretty falls, which unfortunately did not show us the rainbow we were expecting. I believe it needs to be raining and the sun shining to experience the 'rainbow' part of the falls.

A short hike thru a banyan forest. Saw the largest mango tree I have ever seen and a stunning banyan tree. Have no idea how old it is but my husband and son looked like ants standing in the photo I took. The hike takes you to the top of the falls and our teens enjoyed jumping on the rocks.

While the falls are very pretty themselves make sure to take the time to see the banyan trees to the side (across from the hospital) and do the short hike to the top of the falls. the water was overall shallow and lots of people playing!
