When you leave Hawi, take route 250 to get down the mountain to Waimea then to the Kohola Coast. Views are terrific. Very little traffic and several places to pull off the road to enjoy the view of the Pacific Ocean from the top of the 4,000 foot ridge line. The scenery changes from lush green cattle grazing fields to... More

Rainbows followed us all the way to Waimea....what more could you request. There were sweeping views of the Pacific and the beautiful valley below. Eye Popping beauty!

A narrow curvy road that usually requires driving about 30 mph, but it is a lovely drive between Waimea and Hawi. There are a few lookouts for you to pull over into to take photos. There also appeared to be a place to rent horses along the road. Lots of green pastures and ocean views. A relaxing drive.

I tight turn or two, lots of farming going on, flowers at certain times of the year. A few spots for a picnic. Should be a fun little trip across the top of the Kohala range. No where to stop for any supplies but in Kohala area there are nice lil shops and food places. Gas is not to bad... More

Route 250. Lovely higher elevation, 2 lane drive with MANY S turns. No lights so use great caution at night. A SUV is not required...many folks tailgate. A scenic area pull off. Coast line views make it worth it. We were informed that one or two accidents occur A WEEK on this drive. We prefer route 270.

This road is very scenic with beautiful views of the coast line. It's also a lot of fun to drive on if you like s-curve roads. We used this road several times and even at night it's an entertaining drive.

This is a verdant valley between mountains- all tidy and clean. If you dropped out of the sky and didn't know better, you would never guess you are in Hawaii at all. Reminds me of Hobbiton or something. Don't know if I'd GO there, but passing through, it was pretty rad.

We took this drive as a different way of going from north to south and were enchanted by how beautiful it is and how easy it is to drive. The road is good but it does a fair amount of climbing. A lovely and relaxing side road.

This is a beautiful road to drive and one of the main arteries to and from Hawi. Don't be in a hurry, perhaps bring a camera, take your time and enjoy the view.
