A great activity for kids of all ages. You can spend as little or as much money as you would like. They do offer/try to upsell at the identification stage of your visit, but we did not feel pressured. The staff was friendly and seemed to enjoy their job. Something that can not be said of all WI Dells employees.

Pick a bucket of sand/gems based on cost, then pan for goods. Not terribly time consuming, easy for the kids to get involved. Take your finds into the little shop and they explain what everything is and offer to set the stones (for a price) and ship to you. They also have pre-set jewels and other collections. Great rainy day... More

Hands on - we bought a bucket of rock & sand and the kids mined in a water trough. They loved it and it provided educational souviner to take home, including an amethyst, suitable for mounting. A little pricey.

Great idea of something to do together. However, the prices were a little high. It cost us $90 to mine 3 buckets of sand but we thought it was neat how the gems you collected can then be cut and polished by a gemologist. I really wish we could mail our gemstones back to them at a future date to... More

We just absolutely love the mining company! My four year old can not wait to go here when we visit. This time, we bought the $60 bucket. The rocks were much bigger (the crystal she got was HUGE!). In each bucket, you get a polished gem stone ready to be set in jewelry if you choose. We got a 3... More

So our boys love to "mine" after our mining trip to North Carolina this summer. They insisted on stopping here while in the area. The indoor sluice is clean. Prices of buckets are a little steep they are $30, $60, and $135. There was another in between priced one too. My husband was feeling generous after a disastrous night in... More

We visited late in the afternoon and had the place to ourselves. The staff was helpful and went out of her way to engage our son while he searched for his rocks. She was not pushy when we decided on the small bucket size and identified each stone as he pulled it out of the sand. He loved it! We... More

We had a fun time at the dell mining company, we got the kids the $30 buckets and the adults $60 buckets. For the money we spent we got beautiful gems worth the money we spent and the memories were priceless. I got a mystical topaz in my bucket that was just breath taking. The people did an amazing job... More

We stopped here on a rainy day. They try to talk you into the more expensive buckets, but are not too pushy. My 3 1/2 year old and I shared a red ($30) bucket. He had fun playing in the sand. My husband thought it was a waste at first, but by the end, he was scouring the sand. Found... More

We visited the Dells Mining Co on our recent trip to the Dells - we always have a difficult time finding activities that all of our children will like because we have a HUGE age range - 19, 9 and 3. ALL the kids had the best time digging through the sand to find their treasures. They asked to do... More
