Took the ferry without the car and the Cherry Train tour on the Island. Just something different to do while in the Door. Ferry takes about 45 min each way. Cherry Train tour is about 2hrs. Had a great tour lady she likes her job, and a relaxing ride with 4 stops.

We took the ferry over the Labor Day weekend. I heard the lines were horrendous (2 hours+ waiting to get on) both ways on Saturday and then again on Monday with everyone returning after vacation. Otherwise you show up about 15 minutes before departure and hop on.
It's $25 per car and $11.50 per adult- that is a round-trip cost...

This ferry line accepts cars, bikes and individual passengers. The ticket seller knew the ropes, so friendly and he made us feel secure. This ferry line knows what it's doing. If you're afraid of the water (and me, of drowning), this is the ferry for you. Within 30 minutes, we were safely on Washington Island with very little fanfare. Schedule...

We spent the day exploring Washington Island which starts with a ferry ride. The ride over was relaxing and didn't take very long. It was the best way to beat the heat during the July heat wave. We got out of the car and rode in the open bench seats up top with plently of opportunities for photos. We got...

After the hot but pleasant drive through lovely Door County, we boarded an uncrowded ferry and soared into Lake Michigan for a little R&R. Our 12-year-old sons loved the ride, and we love everything about charming little Washington Island. Never overrun with tourists, and always just enough to keep us entertained but not overwhelmed. Much cooler than the mainland!

No, really. That's the main reason we took the carferry over; we have never driven onto a boat before. Loading was easy and the ride was maybe 25 minutes total, and was pleasant enough on an overcast day. The island itself was mediocre - we did visit the ostrich farm and the beach with the smooth stones, and that was...

I have been back and forth to Washington Island multiple times. The pilots are terrific - some days the lake can be pretty darn rough, but I've never felt unsafe. I always enjoy the trip across Death's Door. I like that it's a old-fashioned mode of transportation that carries me to a place where life is still simple and everyone...

$25.00 for car + $11.50 per person. View from the look out tower, priceless. Trip on ferry was nice, nothing to do on island. If you do go, the lookout tower was nice, lots of steps.
