Originally designed as a City of Chicago Fireboat, the “Fred A. Busse” was built in Bay City, Michigan in 1937 and is similar to two other fire fighting vessels, the Victor Schlaeger and the Joseph Medill, constructed in Sturgeon Bay shortly after World War II.

It served the Chicago Fire Department for many years and now houses a small museum dedicated to Chicago’s firefighting efforts.

My husband and I were leaving Door County, going home to Illinois. On the way we stopped in Sturgeon Bay to take a Fireboat Cruise. The Fireboat leaves from the dock of the Maritime Museum (make sure you check out the gift shop before you leave). In season they have two travel times: 10:30am and 12:30am. Each trip is about... The weather was perfect for a day on the boat. We took a ride through Sturgeon Bay out to the bay of Green Bay. We saw Bay Ship Builders with many ships being worked on, other boaters, the Quarry site and a Lighthouse. The deck hand was very friendly and took the time to ask if anyone needed anything. Drinks... More

This was our 3rd trip in 20 years. Always informative but this time the trip was cut short not venturing to Lake Michigan, the lighthouse, world famous Snug Harbor and worst of all my boy hood home on Tacoma Beach Road. The boat continues to be in running condition, clean and the crew was informative. The ship yard was busy... More

We had a great time on the Fireboat tour. It was a 75 minute tour. They narrate information about Sturgeon Bay and history of the ships. It was well worth the money and fun for all ages!!!

Pros: clean ship, drinks and snacks available, restrooms onboard, seating in both sun and shade, kids had fun spraying firehouse, good information. Cons: wish there was more information about history, flora and fauna, homes, etc. Also played loud music that made it hard for elderly mom to hear conversation.

Nice cruise for a couple of hours. Serves beverages and snacks. Has table and chair seating. Kids get to man the fire hose and interact with the mascot. Fun!

We took the morning tour on the Fireboat- it was very nice, not too crowded. The Owners were very friendly and provided an excellent service to all aboard. The tour included detailed narratives on the various sites along the way into the Bay. This was our second time taking the boat ride and we will do it again given the... More

Beautiful weather suggested we try the Fireboat cruise. We has to wait to see if ten people wanted to go as that is the minimum for the boat to go. We enjoyed the interesting narrative that includes the history of the boat in addition to what you are seeing on the cruise. Basically it goes under the bridge out to... More

We had a great time! We took two small children (5&3) and it was the perfect length and perfect distance. I have seen some negative reviews on here but for the money ($25 per person), you get what you pay for. Our kids got to spray the fire hose and they told us briefly about attractions that we passed. I... More
