Recently, the Wall Street Journal visited and reviewed APT. They called it the best classical repertory theater in America. We agree completely. For 35 years APT has thrilled audiences with well directed and produced theater with actors who are passionate and love this bucolic, verdant setting. Whether you attend the outdoor Theater Up The Hill or the indoor Topuchstone Theater,... More

We come every September for 2 shows: one Up the Hill and one at the Touchstone Theatre. The company talent is second to none; likewise the selection and production. This year we enjoyed Travestied and Much Ado About Nothing. We'll be back!

I've been driving the 2hrs from Milwaukee to see APT productions on and off for many years and the drive is well worth it. To avoid overnight lodging costs I attended Sat matinees of "Much Ado" and "Importance...Earnest" plus a Wed morning performance of "Travesties" and all were well-done and entertaining. For matinees we take a cooler & wine, stop... More

APT is a must see for anyone with a little extra time on their hands in Madison during the summer or early fall. We have been attending 3-5 plays every year at APT for over 25 years now. We have seen quite a few plays in other venues, whether on or off Broadway, in London, in Washington, DC, and elsewhere.... More

We went with another couple to see "The Seagull" by Chekhov. The theater is situated at the top of a hill and we were there on a beautiful evening. Unfortunately, the men found the play to be too abstract for their liking and wanted to leave at intermission. We ladies were enjoying it, but we did end up leaving, but... More

I have been attending APT performances for 15 years and with one exception, they have been outstanding. This year I saw Much Ado About Nothing that was brilliantly acted, well paced and delightfully funny. The evening performance of Midsummer Night's Dream a few years ago was truly magical. As night fell, the audience became part of the play's setting complete... More

We've going yearly for almost 20 years. Compared to any other theater we've attended, this is one of the best-and it's outdoors on a hill. Rain or shine, hot or cold, the actors are always superb, and the plays are classic. We've seen it progress from primitive surroundings to a full-fledged production house, now with the addition of an intimate... More

We saw two plays this season, both on Labor Day weekend - The Importance of Being Ernest and Travesties. These two dovetailed nicely, and some of the same actors played the same parts in both productions. APT seems to get better every time we attend. We did not put enough priority on getting the tickets early, but every year we... More

We travel here every year for several of the plays offered at this outstanding regional theater. Never have we viewed a play we were not satisfied with. Make sure you go up the hill and Touchstone, and don't forget the picnic experience. This is a Wisconsin treasure.

I have seen 3 shows at American Players Theatre in the past 10 years. Each time, I am enchanged and taken along for a fun ride. This summer, I saw "The Doctor's Dilemma", the first time I have seen something other than Shakespeare performed here. It was good--the cast was rather talented and lively, and you were instantly drawn into... More
