The "collections" which people rave about are basically unsorted, uncurated assortments of junk. There are probably some good things there, but who would ever know it? I was interested to see the reproductions of the British crown jewels, until I saw them and they were just generic rhinestone tiaras and necklaces. The point of a "reproduction" is to "reproduce" the... more

I loved the House on the Rock, especially the House itself and not just the Infinity Room. I am somewhat concerned about the staff's ability and desire to preserve the exhibits in the house itself. There were a number of deteriorating books, water-stains in the infinity room, etc.. perhaps that's how it's supposed to be. I do wish the bathrooms... more

I visited the House on the Rock during a trip to WI about 18 years ago so some of this might be filtered by time, but I loved it. Someone said it was like a Tim Burton movie and in retrospect that is a good description. I loved all of the collections although it seemed like a ....long strange trip, overwhelming,... more

It's a great place to bring kids - so much to look at and wonder about. We brought our 2 sons to HOTR when they were about 10 & 12 years old and when we were leaving they thanked us for taking them. High praise indeed. It's certainly not a museum, in the usual sense, although it does pique your... more

We had spent two weeks on an escorted tour of Chicago and The Lakelands arranged by Titan HiTours of England. On our last day before flying back to UK from O'Hare the touring party visited The House on Rock. We were told to expect the unexpected and were quite unprepared for what we saw.The perpetual Carousel (not for riding on)... more

Visited the very lovely town of Spring Green in June and made the trip to HOUSE. It is surreal, wacky, never dull and extremely long tour. We were there for 3 hours and only made it thru the first 2 buildings. It is like something that may have sprung from Tim Burton's mind with a sprinkling of a traveling carnival.... more

THE HOUSE ON THE ROCK is the only place we've ever been that has so much to offer at one location. Nothing compares to the vast array of architectural designs, landscaping, collectibles, music machines, stained glass, artwork, statuaries, carvings & machinery. There is so much to see that many visitors are easily overwhelmed and break up The Ultimate Tour into... more

A friend visiting from England was spending a week with me in Madison, Wisconsin. I planned several day trips, one of which was THE HOUSE ON THE ROCK, in Spring Green, Wisconsin. The House on the Rock is the grand vision of Alex Jordan, who believed that sights and sounds were the most effective means of stimulating the senses. The... more

This place is absolutely unbelievable! I have never seen anything like that in my life. The whole place is absolutely surreal. When we left the House, I couldn't even describe my feelings. I felt that I just spent several hours in the Harry Potter world. I will definitely go back. more

The house doesn't make sense, yes it is a sensory overload, it may be musty and not quite kept up, but It is still a site to see!!! Some say it's creepy, some say it has no rhyme or reason, but that's what makes it so neat!!! Tim Burton's movies are super bizarre but unlike any others, odd and entertaining.... more
