Interesting little place. The grounds were nice and the buildings are pretty neat. I know they are old and therefore they are going to be a little musty, but I was having a hard time with the smell. They are a neat place to check out though.

the old white frame building is the visitor center which is free. that's where you can purchase tour tickets for pendarvis. the lady there was so friendly and informative. we loved the whole town...lots of stone buildings on hillsides downtown and big old mansions uptown. the original stone/log cottages are still so strong. you need to plan a half day... This is an historic site in Mineral Point, WI that's perfect for those 3rd or 4th grade field trips where students are learning about Wisconsin history. If you're just driving through and are a bit curious how Wisconsin got its nickname, the Badger State, you're also going to enjoy your stop.

Pendarvis is a wonderful historical site in Mineral Point. Cornish miners settled in Mineral Point and these cottages are restored homes of theirs. When you visit Pendarvis you can see just what their homes were like - inside and out. Many schoolchildren visit this historical site on their field trips - learning about Wisconsin history. Great learning experience!

Yes, there used to be lead and zinc mines in SW Wisconsin, and there were Cornish miners down in those shafts and drifs. Pendarvis is a lovingly restored remnant of those days. Among the site's features are two restored stone houses, assorted other structures, and a mile long walking path that takes you to visit the remains of both lead... More

Visiting Mineral Point, WI was part of our Explore Wisconsin Project. Mineral Point is located in the driftless (lack of glacial drift) southwest area of Wisconsin which has beautiful scenery and attracted the earliest settlers. Pendarvis is a historical site in Mineral Point that tells the history of the lead mining and the arrival of the Cornish settlers. First European... More

When in Mineral Point, you have to stop at Pendarvis. The buildings were lovingly restored, the staff dresses in period attire and you learn a lot about the area, the people who settled and how they lived.

A not-too-long tour of an interesting site. A nice way to learn more about the history of the whole Mineral Point area.
