This is one of the most beautiful public libraries in the United States. I didn't realize what a gem Milwaukee had until I moved out of the area, and found other libraries lacking. Marble, columns, knowledgeable librarians, amazing selection, and great programs make this top-notch. Milwaukee, you are very lucky.

While walking along the Riverwalk there was a sign to the library so I took a side trip and it was worth it. For those who are into architecture, I am sure you will appreciate it. I am into books. The sheer immensity of a block long library was amazing. The exterior and interior are gorgeous to look at. I... More

Not only is this building beautiful on the outside, but the marble floors and columns on the interior are breathtaking. The selection of materials within the library, not including the number and selection of books, are newspapers, magazines, audio and video. They have many tour groups that come through. If you can't find a particular book here, I don't know... More

If you are visiting downtown Milwaukee, stop in to the Milwaukee Public Library located on Wisconsin Avenue. It's a beautiful old library with lots of books. Fun to browse and remember when people actually went to the library to get a book and enjoyed holding a book while reading.

Milwaukee is a hidden treasure in the Mid- western spirit. There's a brand-new art museum that hit all the papers nationally, one of the largest summer fests in the country, music festivals and wonderful dining - all with a smile.

I was a bit surprised that this library design was the result of a nationwide competition. However, the winner was a local firm, so the fix might have been in. It is a lavish building, and the lobby is worth a visit. Can't offer anything on the collection. It won't make you forget the Boston Public LIbrary.
