Wisconsin is very fortunate to still have this great free ferry. While there can be up to a half hour wait on busy summer days, there are ice cream places on both sides and it is easy to get in and out of the vehicle while waiting. You can also get out of the car while going across the river. If you have the time, this is a wonderful way to cross the river.

We have traveled the Merrimac Ferry often as we live close to it. It is definitely a destination place to go. There is ice cream and treats on both sides and nice restroom facilities on the Lodi side. It does tend to get busy on the weekends in the summertime, so you may have to wait a bit. The ride one way across takes about 7 minutes, best of all, its Free!

Its a ferry.....runs 24/7 for free until winter freeze. Carries around 15 vehicles and takes about 7 min to cross depending on driver. Very popular on weekends. Exciting at first.....please just build a bridge.

My family and I took the Merrimac Ferry today for the first time. My boys ages 4 and 6 loved the quick trip. The ferry is about seven minutes in length. We didn't have time to get out because we brought our car but you could park your car and ride on as a pedestrian. If you live in the Madison area the Merrimac Ferry is a great day trip. A few minutes north of the Ferry is Devil's Lake Park with many trails and of course Devil's Lake. If you drive through Waunakee to get to Devil's Lake on 113 there is a sign that flashes if the Ferry is closed for the day. During the summer you will find ice cream shops open on each side of the Ferry. The Ferry is also free. Enjoy!

This is a great practical tourist attraction on your way to Devils Lake - who needs the Dells when you can take this old school ferry across the Wisconsin River. It had been years since I went this route. We pulled up and waited less than 2 mins to board and before we knew it we were on our way to Devils Lake. They run a tight operation. It was a Tuesday morning so not much traffic. Not sure how the crowds are on summer weekends. Worth a detour!

The Merrimac Ferry is between Lodi and Merrimac, on Highway 113. There isn't a bridge only the ferry connects the two towns on HWY 113. It is free to all and a nice ride across the Wisconsin River. You can get out of yourcar to enjoy the views, or you can park and just ride the Ferry both ways.

This ferry is a great trip accross Lake Wisconsin. Worth the small detour if on your way to the Dells or Baraboo.

A sweet treat. How often do you get to slow down just a little to enjoy the beauty of a river and marvel at the ingenuity of this ferry.
I throughly enjoyed this few minutes of being still and soaking in the views and the ice cream. 😊

I recently was in the Lodi/Merrimac/Prairie du Sac area on my way from Madison to WI Dells, so I decided to cross Lake Wisconsin via the FREE Merrimac Ferry! This is a must-do for all Wisconites and everyone traveling to the region! It is rare for anything like this to be free anymore these days, so it worthwhile to take the ferry if time allows. The route of Highway 113 actually follows the ferry, too. I was here on a Sunday around lunchtime, so I had a 30-40 minute wait to get on the 7-minute ferry ride across the lake. I had to wait for the 3rd ferry that left from the Highway 113/188 side (near Okee), but I passed the time by enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery, and they even had a concession stand with ice cream open! There were restrooms available, too. The ferry ride itself was quite enjoyable, and it almost doesn't even feel like you are moving once on the lake, the ride is so smooth! About 15 cars fit on one ferry trip load. We were over to the Highway 78/113 (Merrimac) side in about 7 minutes. It is easy on/off to drive on this ferry, too. I would highly recommend a trip on the Merrimac Ferry if possible, and this would be a nice side trip when going to or from WI Dells. Yes, you can go around the lake and Wisconsin River via Highway 60, 78, or 12, but the ferry is more fun! I highly recommend checking out the entire beautiful area between Madison and WI Dells, including Dane, Lodi, Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, Merrimac, and Baraboo. I will take this ferry again whenever my schedule allows!
