I love museums, and the Swarthout is a gem of a museum in the midst of the library! Many portraits of the early people of La Crosse, many artifacts, and beautifully preserved clothing from days gone by. They change up the displays frequently so you could go back and see "new" old things all the time. It's small, but fun!

Located in the La Crosse Public LIbrary. They have one of the worlds few remaining horse drawn fire pumpers. It is steam powered.(Fire Engine)

The museum is located in the same building as the La Crosse Public Library but has a seperate enterance located on the 9th street side. The musuem was named after Susan and Edyth Swarthout and features displays detailing the history of La Crosse. The museum isn't overly large but it is interesting and the admission fee is definetly reasonable ($1).... More
