With no ropes and nothing under glass, guests are treated to a VIP guided tour of a National Historic Landmark replete with original furnishings and overflowing with the romance of the 1930s and ’40s. “Every time I was visiting with the Lunts in Genesee Depot, I was in a sort of daze of wonder; the dining room, the table, the china, the silver, the food, the extraordinary care and beauty and taste…a sort of dream, a vision.”-Katharine Hepburn « less

Learn a bit about theatrical history while touring this beautiful estate. The docent led tour includes the main house, a walk through the grounds, the studio and the cottage. There are a lot of Swedish artifacts to see. There is also a "program center" where a video is shown which gives information about Alfred Lunt and his wife Lynne Fontanne... More

Ten Chimneys is a wonderful place to visit. The tour covers all of the grounds and all of the buildings. It's interesting to find out how many famous people enjoyed the beautiful country setting. Everyone should visit and take the docent led tour. You won't regret it.

I've always wanted to visit Ten Chimneys because it is so close. I had a BOGO coupon, so a friend and I went. The docent was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic! The story about Alfred and Lynn was neat. However, the home was really hard to get into, figuratively. The wall murals were amazing, and the detail in the wallpaper was... More

Made my first visit to Ten Chimneys on Sunday and enjoyed it tremendously. Our docent, Gene and his wife led us through the Lunt Fontanne home with great stories and detailed what has been done on the renovations to the home. Ten Chimneys was truly a retreat for Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne and their famous and infamous friends. One... More

Recently visited again, which would be my fourth time. We took a musical theater student with us and our docent and her assistant really made the tour come alive and personalized it for us, with stories focusing on the theater and other actors and actresses. The gardens were beautiful including the vegetable garden, which has recently been added and gardened... More

We toured the Lunt and Fontanne estate and found it to be very interesting. The stories of how they procurred some of the furnishings and the stories of famous guests added life to our tour. Ten Chimneys is a country estate complete with a rambing main house, cottage, barn, and chicken coop. The most amazing thing about the estate is... More

The summer place of Lunt & Fontanne is not to be missed, especially if one is interested in life styles and decor. Besides the "high life" style of the main house, there are out buildings which reflect a strong Scandinavian influence. The docents are superb and one comes away feeling refreshed and relaxed, and longing, in some part to return... More
