Ten Chimneys is the estate lovingly created by Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. With no ropes and nothing under glass, guests are treated to a VIP guided tour of a National Historic Landmark replete with original furnishings and overflowing with the romance of the 1930s and ’40s. “Every time I was visiting with the Lunts in Genesee Depot, I was in a sort of daze of wonder; the dining room, the table, the china, the silver, the food, the extraordinary care and beauty and taste…a sort of dream, a vision.”-Katharine Hepburn

Ten Chimneys is a very unique property with very interesting furnishings. The interior has many hand painted walls and ceilings of flowers, cherubs, and many other items. Our docents were very good with all the history and stories of the Lunts and their guests. They are some stories of famous people staying at the house. This was one of my... More

This was a great visit. The house was beautiful and cozy at the same time. The docent was great and full of information about all the various visitors of Ten Chimneys. Lots of Broadway gossip.

For anyone interested in theatre lore or interior design, a tour of 10 Chimneys is fascinating. Every detail is preserved exactly as it was when Lunt & Fontanne entertained their close friends including Laurence Olivier, Noel Coward, and Helen Hayes. The docent pointed out interesting details and shared stories about how the property evolved over he decades and about the... More

If you care about the art, craft and history of legitimate theater, go see Ten Chimneys. In addition to the tour of the house, outbuildings and grounds, there is an excellent exhibit that gives an insight into the process Lunt and Fontanne used to create the finest productions ever seen on the stage. The formal tour (required to see the... More

Ten Chimneys is an amazing place! (It was the home of theatre greats Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne.). If you love theatre, you MUST see it. If you love old estates, you MUST see it. If you love a small and personalized tour, you MUST see it. The rooms are beautiful and full of The Lunts' personal items. The grounds... More

Maybe we would have been more impressed if we had not been to historic plantations or homes like some of the other influential people of the past and previous century. The price of admission was out of proportion to the experience of the the tour. The docents were quite good friendly and well informed but I cannot recommend it if... More

The tour itself was very interesting. The $35.00 per person entry fee was a bit steep, in my opinion. Also, you were not told that there would be a lot of walking and several flights of stairs, some quite steep, to maneuver. Two people in our group were not able to do the stairs, and had to wait for our... More

Several friends and acquaintances had raved about their tours of Ten Chimneys. After all these years of living so near the historic home and passing the highway markers for it, I was glad to have the opportunity to visit. The famous actors' home has been very lovingly restored, and the volunteer tour guides are thoroughly versed in the Lunts' history.... More

There is something for almost everyone to enjoy at Ten Chimneys whether you are a student or the Theatre, Art, Architecture or History. My recent visit to Ten Chimneys with two friends who had never been there was my third visit there and I have found one learns something new each time you visit. The tours are led by highly... More

Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne's home where they stayed during summer, wintering in plays in New York. But the house, as modest as it is, is a welcoming sight. No pictures allowed in house, but outside is OK. Pleasant gift shop including books of the home and its owners. Several actors have come here to mentor aspiring actors (Alan Alda... More
