Nice trail

I have been on most of the trail between Sparta and Elroy. Very nice trail to run or walk or ride bikes on. If you are on the trail you have to go see the tunnels.

The tunnels were cool in two ways—they were eerily breathtaking, and they were significantly colder inside than out. It was like A/C on a hot summer day. If you bike the trails, you're supposed to walk your bicycle through the tunnels. I suggest bringing a flashlight and carrying an extra sweatshirt or jacket. Oh, and you'll definitely get wet. The... Started at the Sparta end of the trail with wind to our backs. Was a beautiful ride due to the fall color in spite of a cool, raining, windy day. Make sure to bring your flashlights for the tunnels. The trail slopes up before the tunnels but is a down hill ride on the other side. Also you need to... More

We rode all the way to one end and back. Tunnels are really cool. Fair amount of people. Nothing too bad. Not the easiest ride either but fairly level. Great workout for anyone. We will be doing it every year. Fall colors were an added bonus!

We rode the trail in late September and early October. The fall colors were good, but figured they will probably max out the week of Oct 11 to 17. We chose to do both the Elroy-Sparta and 400 trails plus the Hillsboro Spur (round-trips) in 2 full and 2 partial days. We figured we did 120 miles total and enjoyed... More

Always a joy to experience. Other riders are friendly, families are the norm. Beautiful scenery. And of course, the tunnels are awesome. Has to be one of the best bike trails in the country

We stayed in Wilton and rode Wilton to Elroy and back the first day, which had one short tunnel. Saw a couple sandhill cranes in the fields, and a couple bluebirds. The next day we rode from Wilton to Sparta which has two tunnels. Definitely need a GOOD flashlight for the tunnels. The longer tunnel also drips water so I... More

Just did a section northwest of the Kendall lot. In great condition, enjoyed the train tunnel. The Kendall building is very nice to start from and the gentleman managing it on Friday was very helpful to explain the trail options and even how to drive to the St. Mary Shrine in LaCrosse afterwards.

I had biked this trail 30 years ago and did it again recently. It is a wonderful trail through the farm lands of Wisconsin. The three tunnels break up biking and are fun to walk through. I did this trail on a road bike and it was totally fine.

We parked in the official trail lot in Norwalk and rode 3 miles to Tunnel #3, which is the longest tunnel. A couple of other interesting things along this 3 miles stretch are the tunnel keeper's building right outside the tunnel, the stone flume (best view is to walk up the short embankment to the pedestrian bridge), and the grass...
