A week at the Clearing comes with quality instruction in a variety of arts and folk arts in a spectacular setting with simple but comfortable lodging and wonderful food including homemade bread and desserts. Conceived of and designed by Danish archictect Jens Jensen, the Clearing preserves a reverence for nature while expanding your world view, skill set and sometimes your... More

The Clearing is a Folk School on 110 acres on a bluff overlooking Green Bay. The Clearing was started by Jens Jensen, a famous landscape architect, one of the first in the 20th century to landscape with native plants rather than exotic species. Jensen was also a partner on projects with Frank Lloyd Wright on occasion. Students arrive on Sunday... More

Beautiful setting and buildings allow for one of the best continuing education locations in Door County. Take a class, learn a hobby or discover a new skill like bread baking in a magical setting

I have been to Door County dozens of times but had never been to The Clearing until this past weekend. This folk school was founded by the great landscape architect Jen Jensen. On the FREE walking tour led by a very knowledgeable docent, I not only learned about the history of The Clearing but saw wonderful scenery as well. The... More

On a whim I took the walking tour on a Sunday afternoon. What a treat! I loved it! The docent was very knowledgeable on the history of The Folk School and her passion to preserve it was clear to see. This is a very quaint, charming, and inspiring place. Would love to take a week long class here! The tour... More

This long-standing folk school has a great gift shop with many hand-crafted items, but its true appeal is the multitude of classes offered weekly during the summer. There is something for everyone whether you wish to learn something entirely new or brush up on old skills. Soothing, peaceful, extraordinary. Live at the Clearing for the week (and enjoy their great... More

We were on a door county tour that took us here and we learned all about the folk school and the classes they have in the summer. An amazing place with such a gorgeous main building!

The Clearing is without a doubt a wonderful, unique place, by trees, water, and nature, with lovely old wood and stone buildings, and a peaceful atmosphere. It offers a wide variety of courses, and like any courses, some are good and some are great. I've had both. In my first experience there, I was a commuter and therefore had my... More

If you wish to have an experience of a life-time--go to the Clearing. It is entirely unique and absolutely incredible. Now, this is from a man who has traveled 49 of 50 states and seen many wonderful places. First of all, it was created by and for Jens Jensen who created the Forest Preserves of Chicago land---one of the few... More
