Governor Dodge state park is a fantastic area, with two lakes, a couple ponds, lots of trails, and a great deal to do for those who like the outdoors. I've spent many days at Governor Dodge. And while its a wonderful resource and beautiful countryside, I've always been disappointed with the lack of investment in the actual lakes. Both lakes... More

We were stopped twice by rangers for being too loud although there was literally only one or two campers near us and they didn't complain. I was told one more time and I get a hefty fine--I think it was around $200! We have camped for years at Devil's Lake with no problems what so ever. They were booked so... More

I found Govern Dodge on a recommendation from a friend who heard it was a good place. My friends and I were looking for a place to camp and hike that was not too far of a drive from Chicago yet had campsites that felt like you were in the woods. The Friends of Governor Dodge site is great since... More

This was the 2nd time we've camped at the park. We enjoyed the Cox Hollow lake for swimming (the other swimming area was not nearly as nice) but camped in the Twin Valley Park. The bathrooms were reasonably clean. We really enjoyed the many hiking opportunities.

We loved the hiking trails and the lakes. The facilities at the campground are above average. The landscape changes dramatically with each season, so we visit at least twice a year.

Quiet and beautiful. A wide range of hikes for hikers of all levels. The waterfall hike (Stephens Fall) is short and quite scenic while not being too long. We did the Meadow Valley Trail and added the Cave Trail addition. Some ups and downs, pretty views, took us about 2.5 hrs. The shortest hikes are about 0.5 miles, and the... More

Great State Park campground for family trip, lots to do and great wooded camping lots! They sell fire wood right there. There are beaches to swim at, many trails to hike that take you to rock formations, caves and waterfalls. The campground is large so if you want to run or bike you can really get some miles in. The... More

The park is amazing for camping. I have used both regular sites and groups sites and both are very big and spacious. The trails are amazing, there is so much to see. I'm going back in a few weeks with my dogs to do some more trails. Definitely a place I will come back to over and over again.

This is a great park with many different types of trails, swimming, fishing & camping. We hiked about 20 miles over two days. The Pine Bluff Trail was semi-strenuous, but excellent! The cave trail led to a...cave, and another excellent view. The waterfall trail was very pretty, but in late July the flow wasn't robust. Swimming beaches were clean with... More
