My husband and I took our 11-year-old daughter on this trail. We parked at the trailhead on the corner of Hwy O and Hwy S and rode to Cornell and back. There are pretty views of the woods and the river. There are a few places to stop along the way but Cornell has a nice ice cream parlor. The... More

Well maintained trail. Upper 12 miles are mostly in the woods. The northern end leads to Brunet Island State Park outside of Cornell. The park is a nice ride also. The south end connects to a trail into Chippewa Falls. You can continue south on to other trails.

Really nice trail surface, all paved, runs slight uphill from South to North, I rode round trip and it was a nice downhill run coming south. Not many road crossings, and some really nice forest and lake views enroute. Don't miss the Pulp Stacker in Cornell, it is a nice piece of history.

Old Abe is a very nice bike trail. Paved and in excellent condition. A very scenic trail, but not too difficult.

The Old Abe trail is a joy to ride. It is paved asphalt and very wide. Started at Lake Wissota State Park and went north to Jim Falls. Came back and crossed the bridge over the lake toward the Chippewa River trail. Well worth the $4 trail fee. Easy access and parking at the intersection of County Highways S and... More

We did this ride the last Saturday in June, 2015. Very flat and scenic. Surface is asphalt and in wonderful condition. The dairy cafe in Cornell had great soup and sandwiches. The ice cream looked good but we were too full for ice cream after soup and sandwiches.

I've been living in Colorado for the past eight years so the only time I ever ride my bike anymore is when I come back to WI. It's paved, it's flat, it's shaded and it's awesome! I do this trail every year. This year I did it on a weekday and never saw another person on the trail. I saw... More

If you are looking for a smoothly paved no hills trail, this is it! The 10 miles or so from Jim Falls to Cornell is exceptionally scenic along the Chippewa river.
