Island was fine. We rented bikes and went to the state park on the other end. Ferry over is a little pricey with a car but runs very often. Not a whole lot on the island. If your looking for hiking go to one of the other ones where you can actually see some wildlife.

We took the ferry over to Mad. Island which was pricey. First off, many of these establishments only accept Visa or Discover. Ella's Cafe only accepts cash and there are two ATMs; one at the Beach Club and one at Lori's Store. Ella's has great food, but it can take awhile to get. The Beach Club food was awesome as... More

Wow - I'm shocked by all of the negative reviews here. This island is one of my favorite places. I've been visiting several times a summer for 20 years. It's very laid back, has super nice people, beautiful scenery. It just feels "real" and it's a very refreshing escape. My kids love it too. The White Fish Tacos at the... More

During the first week in June, we five women ( ages 56-66) rented mopeds for a few hours and explored Madeline Island. It took us only a few laps on the practice parking lot to get the hang of the mopeds, and we were off. I highly recommend this activity. We all loved seeing the parks, homes and side streets... More

Everything on Madeline Island was very nice. I little pricey to ferry over, but camping was really nice. The showers were ok, the one I used had a clogged drain..

We camped on the island for two nights. The campground was nice. It had both open and semi-private sites and adequate facilities. I was worried that there would be a long line for showers (I think there were only two in the women’s restroom), but it went pretty quickly. You can walk from the campground to the beach area, but... We visited last week because driving to Madeleine Island via the ice road was too much fun not to try! We only had a few minutes to check out the island but I'd go back for the art school and also to hike Big Bay.

I was here in summer and there were plenty of places to eat, but in winter most are closed. We mostly went over because the ice road was open, and we were excited to try it. If you go and enjoy nature, be sure to drive out to the state park and walk around a bit. Lovely frozen coastline. We... More

Take the ferry to the island and enjoy the island life. Great resturants and saloons. Seems like you are floating on Lake Superior. You can take your vehicle on the ferry or rent a scooter when you get there.

I recently visited Madeline Island as part of the Madeline Island Yoga Retreats. Both the retreat and the Island were fantastic. Amy Annis was a great yoga instructor and ambassador to the Island. We visited several local restaurants that served delicious food in a pleasant environment. The views while hiking and kayaking were truly breathtaking. I would highly recommend this... More
