There is LOTS to do here if you are open to a lovely non-urban experience. A few examples: Very nice small museum, beautiful camping sites, bike riding, hiking, kayaking, even a very pretty golf course. This is NOT a busy attraction filled urban area so it won't be for everyone. But if you are ready for this kind of place,... More

We went camping for 3 days on this island. Very beautiful hiking, it was fun having to take our car out on the ferry boat to get there. We enjoyed watching a shooting star shower from the beaches on the island. I highly recommend this if you are exploring the shores of Superior.

It was a gray and rainy day but we took the ferry from Bayfield to Madeline Island and spent the afternoon investigating the island, hiking in Town Park along the lakefront, and strolling through the little town. It was an enjoyable relaxing day. The island is beautiful, but it her than the parks and golf course there is not much... More

We spent 3 days camping on Madeline Island with our children ages 13,10, and 2. We kayaked one day, swam another, and hiked. I would recommend getting your groceries before coming to the island. There are basic things but not a big selection and ice is harder to find after 6pm. There is a lot to do and very relaxing.... More

Madeline Island is an incredibly beautiful and peaceful slice of Wisconsin ! A great golf course, eclectic bars and very nice eateries are par for the course. We biked around the entire island and the scenery and magnificent vistas were well worth the effort to get there.

We took our car over and visited the village, the town park which was nice, but the weather was windy and chilly so we just moved on to the state park which had nice trails, but after a few hours we were kinda bored and took the ferry back. If we kayaked or biked it would have been more fun.

My wife & I stayed on the island for three nights. Thus was our first visit to the island and in fact first trip to the apostle islands area. We spent one day at the state park. Some easy flat hikes. The beach area was much longer than I expected. Next time we'll arrange to rent some kayaks as the... More

Yes, it's a nice little island off the mainline, accessible only by ferry (pricey!). There are only a few blocks' worth of businesses, and it doesn't take long to realize there isn't much to see or do. Skip the pottery place on the main drag. It's ugly, the clerk wouldn't speak, and it's expensive! The Bell's pottery place was nice... More

This was a great little biking island with such beautiful scenery as you ride the coast of the island. Roads were pretty clean and lane nice size. The state park was free to bikers but the trail turned to gravel. We didn't explore any further but I wonder if there weren't more paved trails in there. We left the park... More

Madeline Island is a relatively large island in the Apostles accessible by car ferry. The town is very "cute" with little shops and a noted "burned down bar"--they kept the burned down shell and draped the area with a lot of "atmosphere". Many people rent scooters and head out to either the local park or the state park at the... More
