The ferry ride was the best part. My husband and son golfed the course on the island which wasn't maintained very well. My daughter and I shopped the little stores, not really that impressed. I did however enjoy a delicious coffee! The kids asked my why anyone would ever want to visit Madeline Island, my response was it was for... More

We stayed at The Inn on Madeline Island. And while the staff was very friendly we were quite surprised when we got to our room. I could overlook the thick dust and cobwebs on the tops of the drapes, the piece of papaer tOed to the wall with blue painters tape telling me to take off my shoes was probably... More

Lake Superior is the closest thing to ocean front you can find in the Midwest. Our cabin was slightly to small for 7 humans and 2 dogs, but live and learn! We were on the southeast end of the island - light traffic, sandy beaches and spectacular views! I believe this will become an annual tradition for us!

The Island was beautiful and our stay at the State Park was very nice. We went into La Pointe our first night and were very disappointed in the food and the service. Lori's grocery was very unfriendly and seemed annoyed that we stopped in so we left without buying any food. We ate at the Beach Club which was self... More

We always take the ferry to Madeline Island when we are in Bayfield. We rent mopeds at Motion To Go and ride around the island to the park to look out on the lake. This trip we saw a bear eating berries from a tree! A nice couple from Minnesota were stopped on their motorcycle and pointed out the bear.... More

If you're looking for a good day trip from the Duluth area I would recommend checking out Bayfield and Madeline Island. There are some nice art galleries on the island and a few restaurants. I would recommend taking a bike over or renting one while there if nothing else but for the fun of biking around.

Island was fine. We rented bikes and went to the state park on the other end. Ferry over is a little pricey with a car but runs very often. Not a whole lot on the island. If your looking for hiking go to one of the other ones where you can actually see some wildlife.

We took the ferry over to Mad. Island which was pricey. First off, many of these establishments only accept Visa or Discover. Ella's Cafe only accepts cash and there are two ATMs; one at the Beach Club and one at Lori's Store. Ella's has great food, but it can take awhile to get. The Beach Club food was awesome as... More

Wow - I'm shocked by all of the negative reviews here. This island is one of my favorite places. I've been visiting several times a summer for 20 years. It's very laid back, has super nice people, beautiful scenery. It just feels "real" and it's a very refreshing escape. My kids love it too. The White Fish Tacos at the... More
