There a few things to see here and we didn't spend much time poking around. But we went to the house and upstairs are cases with bullets from the battle, etc. Nice overlook of the river. If you are looking for a large picnic area, this would be a nice place. There are 4 large shelters with at least ten... More

The overlook was beautiful but not enough markings on the trails to let you know where you are going or how far til the next lookout. We turned around before we made it to the lookouts on the trails. Lots of great history here.

Great place for a stop with family! Lots of history with a civil war battlefield, awesome playground area, picnic shelters, super clean bathroom, hiking paths, and an amazing view of the Gauley River!

Location of a small battle in the Civil War. A local's home was caught in the middle. Beautiful grounds in this small parklike setting. A beautiful view of the Gauley River from the lookout.

Aside from the educational aspects, I really looked forward to what I had been told was a nice view of the Gauley River. If only someone had found the time to plow the extra hundred yards or so to the picnic area. C'mon guys! You work in snow country, not Florida!

Love to visit this spot. Sitting on the rim of the Gauley River Canyon near Summersville, West Virginia, Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park is an important Civil War battle site that had a win for the Union. Its part of the The Civil War Discovery Trail in West Virginia. Great place for hiking, picnics and quiet time. Try to catch... More
