We travel often and love going to unique "haunted" properties. We have visited several prisons in the past and this is honestly the best one we have been to! The staff was great and our guide was very informative. I liked the fact we got "locked" into the cells and were able to go inside the actual cells to investigate.... More

We took the basic daily tour. Normally 90mins but was closer to 2hrs . we lucked out as our guide was a former guard and very passionate about the place. I am glad we knew him on this side of the bars . I wouldn't recommend this place for kids under 12 as the subject matter and gore of the... More

My wife & I were on a random road trip and ended up going to Moundsville. We took the tour with Chuck, a former guard who had so much insight into the whole place. A lot of creepy history and he even let us visit the sugar shack & boiler room. They have a lot of pictures and items from... More

Wasn't sure I would enjoy this tour but I thoroughly did. The guide was very informative and provided many historical details and stories about the prison. You walk away with a new perspective on prison life over the years. There is a letter from Charles Manson on display and several stories about the Bluebeard Killer Harry Powers. The memory that... I love this place, I found out about it not too many years after they closed the doors. My girlfriend at the time took me there for Halloween, scariest haunted house I've ever been in. Just standing outside waiting in line was creepy. last month I took my teen daughter on a road trip and took a detour to see... More

We were lucky enough to get an excellent tour guide who knew lots about the history of the WV Penitentiary. Even though I had been there once before, having a different tour guide gave me new information and I enjoyed the tour just as much as my first one.

Went to the Penitentiary with my sister and a few of her friends. We went and done a Sip and Seek. Where you go and investigate and then drink a little (I did not drink due to this was my sisters bachelorette party) and then go back and investigate. It was so much fun. Our guide took us out on... My husband and I recently took a tour of the West Virginia State Penitentiary - it was awesome! Our tour guide Ralph was very informative and his presentation of the material gave us a true feel for the history surrounding this horrific place. If you're a history buff or have an interest in America's criminal justice system, put this attraction... More

My husband and I were excited about this tour and hoping to learn some history. We did but it was very difficult understanding our guide and she had a very unique sense of humor which only she seemed to find amusing. She also had a very monotone way of speaking which made it sound as she was very bored with... More

This tour was awesome. I learned so much! We went to the tour during the day, but I'd love to go back for a ghost tour. Would definitely recommend this to anyone!
