My wife and I discovered Droop Mountain several years ago while surfing the Internet to see if there were any Civil War battle sites in West Virginia, close to the Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs where we planned to stay for a few days. At the time, Droop Mountain was being renovated to turn it into a tourist destination... More

We went to the park with little expectations and we enjoyed our time there. Civil war relics were interesting but really enjoyed the hiking in the park. We saw deer and salamanders. Kids enjoyed it

This is a nice park. Rated as only a state park it would earn five stars in my book. However, this is meant to be preserved as a historic Civil War site. A battle significant for West Virginia took place here, but there is very little to see and do. There is a small museum near the ranger's quarters, and... More

We stopped by here during a recent trip to Marlinton. We had visited that city before and somehow missed this during our last visit. I am a big Civil War buff, so we stopped by for about an hour on a friday afternoon. The highlights for me were a lookout with a beautiful view of the surrounding valley, and a... More

Unless you are a real Civil War buff (which I am) or interested in West Virginia history, I wouldn't go too far out of my way to visit this site. The park is nice enough, with a very knowledgeable park ranger on hand, and it even has a picnic grounds. It is not very large as far as battlefields go,... More

I grew up near Gettysburg so I've always had a love and respect for Civil War parks. I knew little about Droop Mtn so I really enjoyed visiting. It was a great place for my wife and I to walk our two black labs, enjoy the views and pay our respects to the long lost soldiers on both sides. We... More

Have gone here many times over the years but Superintendent Mike Smith has really brought a lot of improvements to the park. It is easy to walk on trails that mark the battle lines of both Union and Confederate forces. The museum is located in a small cabin and you will find a lot of stories to read and soldier... More

I was sort of disappointed at Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park until my husband and I arrived Droop Mountain Firetower. Beautiful view, we were able to see miles away. It only takes about 10 minutes to see everything at overlook, but I could stay there for hours. If I knew the location of the tower earlier, I would have taken... More

We stopped for a quick break at Droop Mt. Would recommend using the other entrance from rt. 219 instead of main entrance if only interested in tower. Very narrow road if coming to tower from main entrance. Lots of information signs on that road, May want to walk if possible. Did not go to museum.

Enjoyed the tower and seeing the fall colors of October. The scenery is beautiful from the tower. We got some wonderful pictures from the view.
