Nothing in my opinion compares to the awesome marble that is around the complex. The capital grounds are so peaceful in the middle of the city. Wild life frolic on the grounds and the Kanawha river is visible. Just a beautiful place to visit.

It is great to visit the govenor's office where you can pick up a Wild Wonderful West Virginia magazine, a pencil from Earl Ray Tomblin, and view the reception area. It is convenient to the Cultural Center. Many monuments surround the capitol. Flowers are beautifully kept.

This is one of the most beautiful State Capitol buildings I ever saw. We experienced it in May when they have a music and arts festival called Vandalia...Awesome time to enjoy free cultural music and arts and crafts under shady trees.People are friendly , food is good. Lots to see and hear. Would highly recommend it to those who love... More

We stopped by on a whim on a Sunday (you don't have to pay metered parking on weekends, btw), and we were presently surprised! It was easily accessible, the grounds are gorgeous, and the entire complex, which includes the culture center, governor's mansion, etc. is all a pleasant visit, whether looking for a simple stroll or to learn more about... We've been to a number of state capitols and would have to see, while this is okay, it's nothing special. Maybe because we went on a Saturday. There were no tours given and couldn't see any of the House or Senate Rooms as they were closed. There was a small 5 minute video on a screen in the center of... More

There are very few capital buildings as beautiful as the gilded golden dome of the WV Capital. Along the shores of the Kanawha River.

The space under the dome is beautiful. The coal miner and the Lincoln statues as well as the Kanawa river view from the street side make the grounds worth seeing. The governor's mansion and the cultural museum make the coins you spend on metered parking well worth a visit.

Most interesting due to its very ornate and pricey interior. This building was erected during the Depression amidst cries of "foul" from the populace that all around was suffering economic hardship. But somehow the show went on and marble floors and walls were installed, as well as fancy crystal chandeliers. For shame! Well in any case it probably never could... More

A very grand and proud building. Very interesting grounds filled with gardens, tree's, statues, and Governors quarters. Gold dome is impressive! Inside is very handsome with marble and grand rotunda. Worth the time to visit.
