Spending the day in Charleston, we decided to visit the WV capitol. From the gold leaf on the dome to the wall to wall, floor to ceiling marble in this massive building there is beauty to be seen everywhere. West Virginians should be very proud.

Parking is really close to the capital. There is a lot to see in close proximity to the actual capital. The inside of this amazing structure is simply incredible! The staff people inside were very helpful.

The capitol is very public accessible. It's pretty pretty. But there's relatively "simple" comparing to other capitols. There's no tour as well

The Capitol is a beautiful building that is great for killing time between meetings. If you're a history buff you could make this your destination in Charleston. There are lots of historical sculptures on the grounds, and you can take a free tour of the building itself. The rotunda from the inside is something to see.

I rated this as average only because we did not get to go on a tour, due to a wedding being held on the second floor, and the House and Senate rooms being closed for cleaning. We did get a brochure/map and poked around a bit, but it wasn't all that thrilling. I expect a tour would make it better.... More

This building is very majestic and has an interesting history. We happened to be visiting on Labor Day and discovered that virtually everything was closed. The Capitol Building was open until 7pm. There were no guided tours that day, but the police assigned to the building were more than helpful. Well worth a visit.

Great tour of capitol with lots of history. The dome is visible for miles with the gold leafing on it. It is taller than the US capitol building by a few feet. It could use a little more historical paintings inside the dome

We were in Charleston on Labor Day, and essentially the entire city was shut down. We were looking for something to do after we watched a movie, and decided to visit the state Capitol, even though there were no tours that day. That was a good decision. The Capitol building is an amazing place. It is huge and beautiful, and... More

The WV Capitol is visible to everyone driving through the city with its 24ct polished gold dome! But take the time to stop and visit this awesome building open to the public. A friendly staff and short informative tour give interesting facts about the history of the Capitol. Easy access and plenty of parking on the beautiful grounds.

The area where the Capitol is located is a beautiful park, where numerous squirrels frolic. The Capitol is a smaller version of The one in DC. I throughout this one was nicer since The dome is painted in gold. On a sunny day it is beautiful park to have a picnic lunch.
