It seems amazing these days to think back to a time, just after the Great Depression, when somehow folks thought it made sense to invest vast amounts of money in building the State Capitol - but they did, and it is impressive. In addition, we benefited from being given a personal tour by an amiable Delegate.

I try to visit the capital buildings of every state I visit and found this one in Charleston to be one of the finest. It would be hard to not be impressed with the gold leaf on the dome of the building. The people working at the visitor information desk were very friendly and helpful, and you could tell how... More

We took the tour of the Capitol which is offered every half hour. Lots of interesting trivia about the structure and its history. We also got to see where the lawmakers do their thing. Well worth our time!

a must visit when in Charleston- so beautiful, inside and out. We must have taken over 100 pictures! The citizens of West Virginia have a building to be very proud to call their capitol

Magnificent building and structure. I marvel at the dome every time I pass by it. Also, love that Slovak crystal chandelier inside. Have only visited on Sundays. Nice place to gather thoughts. Quiet and serene. Gorgeous. One of the best.

Enjoyed a walk around the Capitol on a Sunday, good parking, pretty setting above river. River walk along shore just below Capitol Bldg.

We were staying at the Holiday Inn suites . we drove into Charleston on and evening and could not see its beauty the next morning I was amazed to see the picturesque greenish Appalachian Mountains covering me from all sides ...well almost. the hotel room was tidy. It had fast internet and a... More

After seeing the gold dome many times on our way through Charleston, we decided to stop and visit the capitol building. The tour they offer is free and metered parking is available on site. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the capital cities and the capitol buildings throughout history. The tour only goes through a few... More

The capitol was the icon of the city where I lived for seven years of my life. The statistics of this beautiful building are well known: the height of the dome, the architect, the gold leaf--which had "disappeared" for a while I lived there as an adolescent. In this last visit my Cicerone was a friend who works in the... More
