They do have some very good wines! And I've always found the folks working there to be very pleasant. The place itself, however, is pretty small, cramped, and just feels "old."

We had the same experience as other reviewers about 5 years ago, but at that time the wines were glorious. One of our party bought wine futures, but over the years was unable to collect despite numerous phone calls. We went back to Red Mountain this weekend, saw a couple of lovely weddings at wineries, then stopped at Blackwood Canyon...

Mike's wines are a unique proposition. Made in a style rooted in late 1800s and early 1900s. They are definitely old school, old world wines, utterly different from that produced by any other winemaker in the new world. Do not go expecting over the top ripe, fruit bomb wines or you will be disappointed. The 20 year Chardonnay will stand...

You will never forget a trip to Blackwood Canyon Vinigery. I took one sip - threw the tasting fee on the counter and fled. I guess I'm too "new school" to appreciate a 20 year Chardonnay.

I have never writen a review on line before, but I thought this experience was so insane that I had to warn others. As with the other reviews, we experienced an exspensive tasting expeience that he will not allow you to share and collects up front. The winery was reminiscent of a barn that pickers would go through. Old, dirty,...

Really, we are open to people who are eccentric, which is why we decided to visit Blackwood Canyon. We enjoy 'another take' on the norm, but Mike is way beyond that.. The wines we tasted, before fleeing, tasted of vinegar as others have said. The place is filthy & we were met by a growling dog. He was beyond wasted...

We went to visit the wine nazi and what a show. The tasting room had about 2.5 million fruit nats and you had to cover your glass. Mike was like 5 sheets to the wind when we arrived. He was shirtless, shoeless and wine stains all over him. He kept taking out little-little bits of cheese that he said was...

Our visit to Blackwood Canyon Winery is an experience I won't soon forget. Attracted by the signs many times on Sunset Road that say, "Old School Wine Tasting"....we finally gave in to our curiosity and drove back into the field and worked our way to the so-called "winery". Immediately your noses were overwhelmed with the stench of vinegar and rotting...

You will either love it or hate - there is no in between!
But please appreciate that Blackwood Canyon tries to be different on purpose.
I've visited the winery several times in the last three years and brought friends and family members to expereience the difference. And frankly, there are some that won't go back and others that enjoyed the...

Although there is a certain amusement value to visiting Blackwood Canyon, I would otherwise not recommend this place. The wines here are uniformly awful; most are over acidified, maderized, etc. The winemaker, while quite passionate about the wines he makes, apparently has no clue when it comes to making good wine. He likes to tell unsuspecting visitors that his wine...
