The Grand Cinema is run by volunteers and has many events throughout the year, in addition to, running popular, mainstream movies. The theater often hosts post movie discussion forums. Parking is free in a lot next to the building. The concession stand is well stocked. If you are looking for comfy seats and a huge screen, you will be disappointed.... More

Homey old Tacoma environment - run by folks devoted to good film - hard to get a bad flick there - lots of heady stuff, off-beat, foreign films. Great to escape the computer generated no-plot stuff coming out of Hollywood. An environment of fellow-minded people - people volunteer their time to support the theater. Just the place for those sick... More

Great staff! Fun selection of movies. Parking can be an issue, but usually only a short walk if the lot is full. My wife purchased me a membership as a gift, and it was a wonderful gift that paid for itself quickly. It also eliminated the parking issue, as yoy get a parking pass with a membership.

Do you know that old pair of shoes that fit just right and feel great? They might not be fancy or the latest fashion, but they fit you perfectly and make you feel good? That is the grand cinema. You will enjoy quality movies without the baloney and large crowds. Not shiny, but very good.

The Grand is a small, independent non-profit movie theatre in downtown Tacoma. They show a mix of first run movies together with independent and foreign films that you will not find anywhere else in the area. There are four screens. Seating is limited so the viewing environment is intimate. We became members last year. With our membership (and a senior... More

We discovered The Grand Cinema about a year ago and then I wished we knew about it sooner. Now we have a membership and enjoy the benefits of discount tickets and free small popcorn. And I love the popcorn there. It's the only place around to see some of the indie and art films. We go there on a regular... More

I usually love these types of cinemas, but our first visit left us a little disappointed. The staff seemed a bit overtaxed, leaving them a little edgy. But my least favorite part was listening to the movie next door, as the walls are just too thin. This took away from the excellent, non-action (read: quiet) movie that we were watching.... More

Can't say enough about the "neighborhood" theatre. The movies never disappoint. Unusual, thought provoking Oscar and Golden Globe nominees play first at the Grand. Great documentaries. Volunteers and cheerful people who love the movies in the lobby. Reasonable price for first rate "IT" movies playing in larger metro areas. Read a review in the Wall Street Journal and a week... Great prices, popcorn and movies. Recommend becoming a member as it has several benefits. Members get money off ticket prices, free small popcorn and an additional parking lot to use and membership is tax deductible. Best nonprofit or for profit movie house around. Don't forget real butter on the popcorn.
