Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA. « less

This is a very small zoo but they have lots to do, and see. They are working on some of the exhibits. The aquarium has a lot of sea life from the area as well as a new shark exhibit, and a few of the other animals have had young ones born that are also on display. While small well... More

The zoo is clean and appealing to small kids. However, it is way too expensive for what it is. It is tiny. The animal habitats are small. We've been several times, only because I don't have any other reasonable zoo options. We took my son on his 2nd birthday, which happened to overlap with the holiday lights. We had to... More

Had a wonderful day at the zoo -- Kids loved feeding the Budgies (a must) and seeing all the animals. We went later in the day (after 2pm) so many animals were sleeping (ie. polar bears, red wolves, tiger ) but there was a lot to see -- the seals, walrus and monkeys were really active and we would definitely... We loved this zoo! The grounds and the views are amazing. It's clean and the animal exhibits are great! I loved that there is a high quality (although small) aquarium within the zoo. The main draw for us was the polar bear. My son had been asking for months to see a polar bear. The polar bear didn't disappoint. He... More

A wonderful zoo with creative ideas. The PolarBears, tigers, sea otters & even the walrus entertained us for hours. The aquarium had wonderful displays I especially liked the aquatic plants -stunning. I have been to many larger zoos, spending hours looking at animals who are even bored. Each area was great without wearing you out. Thanks for a great place to... More

We stopped at the Point Defiance Zoo on our way through Seattle. We wanted to have a break from the car for a couple hours before going on to Portland. This is a small zoo with many animals that we don't have at our local zoo. More important the exhibits allowed the kids to get much closer to the see... More

The animals are in too small of areas, they look sad unhealthy. The elephants living conditions are completely too small, both of them were rocking back and forth.. A sign of mental health issues with them from being into small of a space. No staff out and about to help guide you or answer questions. Very disappointed with this zoo!... More

During December, we went to Zoo Lights (phenomenal Christmas light display) and scheduled my son and his dad for a Swim with the Sharks. They had a blast! At the end if a brief educational program about sharks, they put on a waterproof suit over their clothes, a mask and oxygen and climbed in a cage that was lowered into... More
