Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA. « less

A wonderful zoo with creative ideas. The PolarBears, tigers, sea otters & even the walrus entertained us for hours. The aquarium had wonderful displays I especially liked the aquatic plants -stunning. I have been to many larger zoos, spending hours looking at animals who are even bored. Each area was great without wearing you out. Thanks for a great place to... More

We stopped at the Point Defiance Zoo on our way through Seattle. We wanted to have a break from the car for a couple hours before going on to Portland. This is a small zoo with many animals that we don't have at our local zoo. More important the exhibits allowed the kids to get much closer to the see... More

The animals are in too small of areas, they look sad unhealthy. The elephants living conditions are completely too small, both of them were rocking back and forth.. A sign of mental health issues with them from being into small of a space. No staff out and about to help guide you or answer questions. Very disappointed with this zoo!... More

During December, we went to Zoo Lights (phenomenal Christmas light display) and scheduled my son and his dad for a Swim with the Sharks. They had a blast! At the end if a brief educational program about sharks, they put on a waterproof suit over their clothes, a mask and oxygen and climbed in a cage that was lowered into... More

This is by far the absolute WORST ZOO I have ever been to. Today I took my children for their very first trip to zoo and they were super excited then we got there and they didn't see the animals they were mist excited to see because they don't have them. They don't have any monkeys, gorillas, orangutans, other types... More

Was a great day at the zoo. They have done a nice job with the layout and the landscaping. Was kind of hot for the animals. Some looked like they needed shade. But was entertaining anyway. The only suggestion I would have is more shaded seating around the food kiosks. Will go back.

Went to the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium during a family visit on the Fourth of July weekend. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by the awesome location (it overlooks a Puget Sound inlet) AND the variety of animals. The Tiger viewing area was the best I've ever seen. Two tigers were lounging on a rolling green hill so... More

Went to this zoo due to the awesome reviews. For $115 for family, I so want my money back. Most outdoor animals were not visible or gone. Indoor exhibits were difficult to maneuver due to narrow walkways. My 7 yr old son is in a small wheelchair but we struggled to have room to pass. Everything looked beautiful upon entering... More

This zoo is actually quite large for having a young toddler. We did not get through the entire zoo prior to having to leave due to naps. Luckily, we bought a year long membership. There is a great place that you can touch sting rays and there are sharks to see. We stayed for part of their show "Dr. Bones"... More
