Description: Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where...
Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

The primary thing I noticed was this is more a free range day care center than a zoo. As is the nature of day care centers, it is filled with screaming children running wild and glum looking parents contemplating their fate. There are a few animal displays, some vacant, some not, some closed, some open. If you find one that... More

We went to see the clouded leopard cubs, arrived at 11am for their exercise. Stayed and watched them play and run around for over 1hr. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Afterwards, we visited the rest of the zoo, caught a few other animal enrichment and feedings. All the animals looked to be in great shape and seemed very well cared... More

Being at a zoo like this on a very hot day dampens the experience a bit due to the stress the heat puts on the animals and the humans. Nothing worse than a hot polar bear! They were not swimming like in the picture! The grounds are beautiful and I especially enjoyed the wolf exhibit and the four baby clouded... More

Its not that big of a place and prices are really expensive. I would rather go to woodland park zoo instead

Terrifying experience. I was wearing a blue-green top that must have sent the wrong signal to a male peacock. He spread out his feathers and blocked the path. He began aggressively coming towards me and I just ran as fast as I could in the opposite direction. He followed for a bit. Needless to say these animals should not be... More

This is a nice zoo and it has a great mix of sea and land creatures. We enjoyed the location, which is lovely. The kids loved the play area; however, the price was a bit steep. That includes their food.

This is a wonderful zoo for small children. It is walkable and visitors can get quite close to the animals. It seems quite clean, isn't too crowded, and has great educational programs for visitors.

Lots of fun activities. Animals and their keepers roam around the zoo and you can pet and ask questions. The aquarium is my favorite. The zoo in inside of Pt. Defiance park which has a 5mile drive. There are lots of running and biking trails around the zoo. Anthony's is close by for lunch after the zoo! I fed the... More

Nice small zoo. I have been going to the zoo since I was a kid. Although, the aquarium has changed a bit, its still good.

We enjoyed visiting the zoo and aquarium and the spectacular view of Mt. Rainier from the grounds. However, the aquarium had a limited collection and a large pool with nothing special swimming in it. It could use a thoughtful upgrade. The steep, hilly site required a lot of uphill and downhill walking, which on a very hot day was a... More
